    Hi,

My 12 year old son wants to have a go on a bike.

Does anyone know of somewhere near Stoke which will let him have a go
    off-road?

Somewhere official where he can borrow the kit.

    Cheers.

    There is more than one?

    Stoke-on-Trent

I'd have thought that as I'd not specifically said then the most obvious
    would be assumed?

    Or is Stoke-on-Trent not obvious?

    There are plenty.
It would've been more obvious had you said Stoke-on-Trent in the first
place, but either way, is Chester close enough? If so, try Bogbusters -

All [1] of the top 100 google searches for Stoke lead to Stoke-on-Trent

[1] those which refer to a town/city [2] that is
[2] and which don't form part of a town which is always known as two parts,
    such as Stoke Newington.

Kevin Stone emerged from their own little world to say
Autoroute presents a list of 5 if asked to find Stoke as a single word

1 in Medway, 2 in Hampshire, 1 in Devon and 1 in Cheshire

I would've thought the addition of "on Trent" would provide a clue that
Stoke is not a unique designation?

Yet in MapPoint, Stoke-on-Trent is seventh in the list when searching
for Stoke. So anyone who was trying to find which of the off-road
centres they know of is closest to you would probably want to confirm
    your location first.

I believe so. If not, http://www.trailrides-wales.com/ is possibly the
best in the country, if you want to make a weekend of it.

I concede defeat [1] on this point.

[1] although Multimap is much cleverer as Stoke-on-Trent is the top 3 of
    about 20.

Yes, well they use your IP to target advertising. In your case they would
have a hyperlink on the map for the nearest oatcake shop.
