The GPZ500S Is a brilliant machine, I loved it for a good 3 years (thats a
fair while in my books), rode it in all weather, all day often as a computer
tech on the roads of Perth, bought it back to Wollongong (East coast) and
eventually it made way for a faster bike, I never pushed it like a racer,
it did everything I wanted it too nicely, no issues with the bike, lovely
for what I wanted it for.

Great choice... and nope, never bit the dust on that one.

    Hope that helps

I'm a bit hazy but I think he went Suzuki -> Kawasaki -> and back to Suzuki
    (and then back to Kawasaki!).
He rode a VF750 Honda in the '83 6 Hour.

Thought that when he went to Europeearly in his career in
particular Cadwell Park UK he rode a Kawasaki in the pouring rain
, I remember reading the article because everyone was astounded
cos he had th3e bars changed to a flat style and rode a dirt
tracker style race . My memory is very faded these days but I am
sure he was riding a Moriwaki Kawasaki that only had sponsorship
for part of the season, but he scared the crap out of some of the
Europeans with the wild sliding style.

Well, the manual probably came later, and as you say maybe the fairing, but I wouldn't be
surprised if the ACT rego people got it wrong; it could be an '84 or an '86 or a new
Diversion for all they knew (or cared), but I'm disinclined to argue the toss with the
numbers punched in the case. A different series of numbers between the R and F series
    perhaps?

Anyway, an interesting bike, which I still miss (although I wouldn't have the RS if I still
had the XJ). For me, it's a long time between bikes with ground clearance to burn.
    ....and bites tongue...

Well I can't find proof but this list of smaller XJs does seem to indicate
that they start again at 1 (or 101) each model year:

I had a deposit on that VF1000. Had a VF750 & put it under a car the day
before i was to trade it & some ready for the 1000. It was in the window of
mentors for months with 4000k on the clock. They wanted $4800 for it from
    memory.
