Why is that every job you think will take 5 minutes doesn't.

I got my act together for the job in hand (Tigger crash bars) and got me
a T55 Torx bit, but when it comes to reassembly, nice my SW-Motech has
decided to use 18mm nuts, and in a place where only a ring or open ender
    will fit.

I have more 17mm and 19mm spanners than you could shake a stick at, and
a handful of 18mm sockets for which there isn't clearance, but no 18mm
    ring. Bollocks.

Saw or grind the bottom 10mm or so off a socket. Weld on a handle.
Beat with a large lump hammer to undo the distortion. Sorted.

    Grind 1mm of a 17mm spanner or fit a 1mm shim to a 19mm spanner [1]

[1] a bit of copper e.g. a penny filed down to fit with a bit of super
glue to hold it in place

Just touch the angle grinder (1) in the 17mm opening to enlarge it a little.

    (1) You _do_ have an angle girnder don't you?

There is one in old BMW tool kits IIRC. For some strange reason.

I had the 911 up on stands last night. Fitted the new disks, popped the Big
Reds back in. Anti vibration dampers in. Prepared pads...... then realised
the cumfelching cock in the dealer had given me the wrong discs. And the
wrong pads. I almost lost my SOH for a moment.

I thought there was too but to my surprise, no.

So I will avail myself of Champ's ring this evening

  11. My post was slightly tongue in cheek. Why do it the sensible, easy way
when one can spend hours bodging?

  13. my ring did change size while heading towards the ground where I did
    my collar bone :)

    I was more thinking:-
I'd have just used one of my "friends" adjustables.

    Cheers

I have a number of adjustables, however none of them would fit in the
    confined space available.

  17. I've banned AFS* spanners anywhere near anything I regard are remotely
    important.

Haha. It only works on 4-sided bolts too. "Grabs bolt on all 4 sides".
