  2. Item's been removed. What was odd about it?

  3. Probably the price.
It was a dealer sale, priced at £ 1900, which would be a tad low
for what appeared to be a rather smart Square Four.

This was the early model yeah? IIRC overheating on the rear pots was de
    rigeur.

Thus spake Oily () unto the assembled multitudes:

    [Ariel Square Four]
I'm often amazed why the designers of the Square Four thought an aircooled
engine design like that would not overheat. I do also wonder why they didn't
opt for a liquid-cooled design. Hmmm, "cost" is probably the answer to that...

    Bet that looked a poultice....

Fins cheaper/easier than a water pump and radiator? - Unlikely - think of
all those 'worm drive screw clamps' as well!!

Which is what counts of course, but bits of ally always looked so shite on
    'street bikes' to me.

Sure *these days* maybe, but still not back then in the 50s and not cheaper
    in any case!

(Asitappens, my current '03 and '08 bikes are both air cooled - as was the
last 5 before them, I have just realised!!)

I considered a 'Squariel' at about that age but it had been in bits with the
head off for a long time, so I passed it by - no money for 'projects' in
    those days!

    See above.

    Hmm, intriguing - wottissit?

I had a Matchless G11 from about that time!

Not an unusual state for a 650 AMC twin ;-)

Here's mine during one of its brief running phases. Long gone now, but
still fondly remembered - like the pillion.

I think it was contemplating the fact that I had got squeeze by bum on
to the small area of seat still left and the ride back home from
Liverpool. She much preferred the R90/6 that replaced it a few years
    later.
