1975 Suzuki 125 oil injection

    So the TC 125 arrived the other day via Forward Air.

    So I finally got around to putting gas and oil in it. Then I see the $5 a
    quart 2-stroke oil pour out of some side cover behind the front sprocket.
    WTF!

    I see the oil line goes through a rubber grommet in the case above the leak.
    So I remove the side cover access to the oil pump. (BTW, what a stupid place
    for the pump...) Any way I see that the oil line has disconnected from the
    pump. But in order to get the line back on I'll need to remove all the left
    side covers, this will be a pain. The Yamaha DT 175s are much easier to
    work on, but I digress.

    Anyway I call the seller and it turns out he has been running 50:1 gas/oil
    and not using the injection. Is that right? I would have run 40:1.

    Should I continue running it this way or should I attempt to repair the oil
    pump / oil line fitting? It seems to foul plugs, are carb adjustments
    necessary when running gas/oil and no oil injection?

  2. If you can get the injector working, it's better than a fixed pre-mix ratio
    - the oil rate varies with throttle position.

  3. Suzuki's oil injection system was different from Yamaha's system. The
    Suzuki system and some models injected oil to the crankshaft as well as
    into the intake ports. This gave direct oil injection to the rod big
    end bearings and the main bearings. Check that out.

  4. Note that Suzuki oil pumps were often (always?) driven off the
    gearbox. This means there is no oil pumping when the clutch is in -- as
    I found out to my cost in my first race in Canada...

    In theory you should open up at least the main jet when using
    premix, to maintain the petrol:air mixture ratio (as opposed to petroil:air
    ratio :). At 50:1 it'd probably work out less than one normal jet
    increment, though.

    Yeah, I noticed that, 2 lines coming out of the crankcase and to the
    cylinder.

    Suzuki called it CCI, I thnk.

    I would prefer to run with injection, but looking at the pump with a
    flashlight (it is buried behind the front sproket) it appears the fitting on
    pump for the oil intake may have cracked off, thus there is not enough
    material for the hose to slide over. Which probably why it is currently
    running pre-mix.

  6. Looking at the Oil Pump fiche at www.partsfish.com, I see one inlet
    hose going to a banjo fitting that feeds a hollow bolt. On the outlet
    side there appear to be two banjos and two hollow bolts.
    If you can't find an oil pump on eBay, you might try *very carefully*
    drilling out the buggered hole and inserting a tight-fitting brass tube
    with red Loctite securing it. The brass fitting fell out of my
    GS-1100's petcock nearly 20 years ago, and I reintalled it with Loctite
    and it's still secure.
