Freddie Spencer, Wes Cooley and Eddie Lawson battle it out round Laguna,
a great classic clip with onboard video footage.

  6. It's the slo-mo shot of Dave Aldana (109), on the left-hander, near the
end of the film that sums it up for me. Look at that overpowered relic
    he's riding weave and wobble.

They all did that, sir. It's quite odd when you look back, though, and
realise how normal that sort of handling felt at the time. I remember
what a revelation it was when I first switched from an 'old school'
GPZ550 to the newer GPX600 - I just could not believe how little
effort I had to put into cornering on it.

Of course, nowadays you have to go for really agricultural shit to get
any idea of what it felt like at that time...

I suppose this is the point I shout "Hot Diggerdy!"

I found riding some newer bikes quickly a bit uninvolving when
compared to riding my Guzzi at its limits and that was an excellent
    handling bike by 1979 standards.

    Reminds me of my Zephyr.
Wish I could ride it like Mr Aldana.

  12. That does beg the question of what sort of racing class would possibly
give the same thrill. It wuld have to be big naked retro bikes: Bandit,
    CB1000/1300, ZRX1200/1300, XJR1200/1300.

    Imagine the carnage :))

    "Hyperinflation"? Get a grip.
    I'd prefer 04/09/80 - cos then I'd have a full licence.

That was earlier - it is difficult to think while wearing rose-tinted
    spectacles.
I finally got mine (for bikes) in '76, IIRC, at third attempt.
The car one didn't come until a few years later.
