I was helping a mate clean out his garage on the weekend, of bikes and bits accumulated over the years. Buried under a pile of boxes and a tarp in the corner we found a 1986 VT250F that had been literally forgotten about, for at least the last six years. My mate gave it to me, as a sort of payment for helping him out, but I'd rather pass it on to someone who actually needs it. Feeling the need to stuff around with something for the afternoon, we changed the oil, stuck in a battery, juiced it up and cranked it over. Amazingly, it started first pop, and idled remarkably smoothly. I was expecting dry carb seals, perished rubbers, etc. A quick blat around the block confirmed that mechanically she is in pretty good shape. Tyres are roadworthy, tread-wise, but are probably stuffed (rubber gone hard from age). Can't comment on the brakes, as they're drums and we didn't have time to look inside. Headstem is OK, all electrics are attached and functioning, chain and sprockets are OK (a little dry, but nothing a tad of lube wouldn't sort) wheel bearings seem fine. I didn't have a camera with me, but the bike is black with a red seat, and would probably clean up OK (there's some scratches, and faded/thin paint, but no significant damage). A bike of the same model is pictured at http://www.bikepics.com/pics/pics/hon-vt250-86-bikepics-10722.jpg, just to give you an idea. While I don't want a flood of hard luck stories, I do want to give this bike to someone who really needs it, and not to someone who already has a garage full of bikes. If you, or someone you know could really use this thing to get to work, please drop me a line at rodb69_at_hotmail_dot_com, and I can put you in touch with the owner. Cheers.
