Sometime ago I gave up listening to and giving out film recommendations
as 9 times out of 10 neither party seemed to enjoy the recommended fillums.

This w/e we did a bit of a catchup and watched Gran Torino and In
    Bruges[1] amongst others.

These two, on top of Slum Dog were all recommended on here by Champ, so
    well done.

I only gave In Bruges 0.5 'cos it was a bit too sweary for me. Usually I
don't like the shoot 'em ups either but in this case it didn't seem to
    bother me.

Have you watched In The Thick Of It lately? I'd swear (sic) you were
    one of the scriptwriters.

On fillums - watched 'The Class', that French language film about an
inner-city sink school, at the weekend. Strongly recommended. Very ad-
libbed and improv and semi-documentary (lots of hand-held camera
    stuff), but really excellent.

Needed the sub-titles, too, because 90% of the *amazing* French slang
    went over my head.

The one a couple of weeks ago with Richard Bacon was one of the funniest
things I've seen in my entire life.
How does it contrast with Etre et Avoir?

Was that the one which ended with Peter Capaldi being fired? That
cracked me up, with that fantastic rant that started: "Are you trying
to **** me?" and ended thirty-seven 'fucks' later with "I've got teeth
    up my fucking arse".

You should give "Shoot 'em up" a try then. Not brilliant, but it *is* a
spoof and it pulls it off quite well.

Oh, right. I've missed a few. It'll have to be 'buy it on DVD', I
think, as along with Outnumbered, it's one of the very few British TV
comedies of recent years that has had me howling with laughter.

The only place I use for film ratings these days is rottentomatoes.

in the closing credits it has a line saying (something like)
    "additional dialogue by the cast".

A suitably cutting response to the reference to IMDB I didn't make.

but rottentomatoes is just an aggragator, surely?

I mostly go on what they say on filmunlimited, to be honest.

There's only another six months left in the show really. Tucker's the
heart of it, and I don't think the beardy cyclist character's really
going to carry things as well after June.

probably right. Iannucci really needs to move onto something a bit
    more edgy.
