He does folk music. They use bits of string instead.

But even some folkers have drummers and they *always* need a strip of gaffer
    over their gobs.

Well don't get either confused with masking tape. That stuff leaves a sticky
residue that's a fucker to get rid of. It's the way I can tell which
guitar/mic leads are mine and which ones aren't.

For coiling up cables LX tape is a better bet than gaffa tape. Cheaper,
and you can break it apart without damaging the cable when you come to
    use it.

I would've thought cutting a few strips off a roll of velcro would be
    the way to go.

Just use a cable tie and cut it with scissors each time. After all,
    they're cheap enough.

I have used the little velcro ties as well: they are nice but a heck of a
lot slower than just having a roll of LX tape in your pocket.

I'll bet you're the kind of guy who solders his own jacks and XLRs.

You could label them with clear heat shrink and some writing at the
construction stage. Or even a custom printed "Beavs Cable" label. The
heat shrink will also act as extra strain relief on the cable end near
the jack prolonging its life on the road. Which is nice.

The best way I have found for removing tape goop is a cloth soaked in
a liberal dousing of isopropyl alcohol. Does gafa tape goop too but
    not duct tape goop.

Velcro is as slow as all hell. When you have about 200 - 300 cables to do
    LX is the only way.

For domestic usae cables or long term storage it's a good call but for
regular coil and uncoil usage it will annoy the life out of you.
