Well that's my ear-worm of the day sorted then.

I have straps for that, but I still need tape to stop idiots from tripping
    up and causing mayhem.

You can even buy Velcro straps designed specifically for the job.

I don't understand that. I have a strap (Velcro) on one end of each cable
and once coiled, the strap, being right there in your hand, is simply looped
through the coil. No looking for tape, no tearing strips of tape off and no
    forgetting where the tape is.

And you'd win too. The result of that though is I've never had a cable fail.
I use spring retainers at the cable ends:)
But then whoever is pulling cables from the PA or amps won't know which ones
are mine. I *would* use your suggestion of "Beav's Cable" stickers/labels,
but we're oop norf remember and the thick cunts can't all read.

My velcro straps weren't the ones that actually attach to the cables - I
was including the time spent digging around in the bottom of boxes to
find them at the end of the gig :)

It's likely that more time is spent grubbing around in cases/bags than is
ever spent playing the fucking gig :) I found the "permanent" Velcro straps
    a godsend.
