Woo Hoo, something fairly new for a change
    www.yamaha-motor.co.uk/products/motorcycles/competition/WR450F_2trac.jsp
THE FIRST PRODUCTION 2WD FOR MOTORCYCLES
After one hundred years of one wheel drive, Yamaha are to launch the
    revolutionary
WR450F 2-Trac rally bike, a limited production competition machine
featuring the world's first production two wheel drive system for
    motorcycles.

and only 6.5Kg heavier than the rear wheel drive version

They are ok on the dirt track but on the road it will be very dangerous
in the hands of inexperienced hands.

All those hands are going to take some getting used to, for a start.

Cool, that's saved me buying MCN next week - Not that I've bought the
piece of shit fucking thing for more than a year anyway.

Wank piece of fucking crap that it is.

    IMHO, of course

New ? Can't be bothered to check but Yamaha (Öhlins)
have been playing with / teasing the market / producing
this at least five years, maybe ten.

I wonder how long it will be before we see a road bike with this?
Presumably the weight gain still outweighs performance improvement for
something like one of the Superbike series? Either that or do specific
    rules insist on 1WD?

No two wheel drive has been experimented with for decades, mostly
mechanical. This seems to be the first proper commercialised example
    though.

It's a hydraulic system that adjusts the front torque to compensate
for rear wheel slip, IIRC. As OH- says, they've been testing/demo-ing
    it for years and years.

I can remember something from the dim distant past that used a cable drive
to the front wheel, dunno if it went into production though.

It's a bit like UKTV Gold. If you missed something in Bike ir Performance
Bike, it'll appear in MCN the following week. That makes them about 2 months
behind the rest of the world mind.

Aye, and there's no point subscribing to the whole of Sky because you've
seen that "must have" program advertised for another channel because in
six months it'll be on Freeview.

    Incidentally, another "world scoop"!:

Freeview's changing. I've already ordered the DVR. Freeview as you know
it will cease to exist after the end of the month!

I seem to remember seeing either at an exhibition or on one of
Yamahas web sites that they have done testing with a road racing
    bike.
For superbike they need to do some sort of series production
    to get homologated (sp?).

It's been sold as an MX bike for a bit over a year now I think. WiRE
ran one in UK supermoto last year or the year before I think. Dani
    Mueller raced it.
