They're all OEM parts these days, 5KOhm sealed pots[*]. He said they said the sensor couldn't be replaced by Kawasaki, but, well, unless it's something very very weird it could easily be replaced. But probably not by a dealer, since they just don't think that way. That being said, I've got nothing against the Hogleys either. -----sharks [*] Except on the Spagthorpes, obviously, who use a logarithmicly tapered rod of solid oak with brass inlays, to maintain mechanical and aesthetic compatibility with the mechanical ECU used in the 1942 Spagthorpe-Turing Poodle, a vehicle developed in secret at Bletchley Park to both outhandle and outanalyse its German rivals.
I recalled it as Kawasaki wouldn't sell him the sensor (hence given the fairly basic nature of the part I suggested he get a measurement of the output and toddle off to the jap car wreckers where you could buy a couple of dozen assorted ones for $10) JL
The bastards !! That would be most unlike a motor manufacturer to try and sell you a complete assembly rather than just the bit you wanted JL (I'm betting there isn't a mfg who hasn't got some 2bob bit you can only buy as part of a $250 assembly)
Back in my smash repairing days, we found a part (a seat mounting) on a Tarago (recently released at the time) that wasn't available as a part OR as an assembly. It just didn't exist as far as the spares list went. Toyota Aus fixed it for us and airfreighted one in.
Well, to get a left hand passenger running board assembly from Kwaka (after some low life nicked it), I have to buy about 25 parts all of which are separately itemised. Then it has to be put together ... Cheers Goaty
See, headaches Sharks! Which programmable ECM you gunna use? A single throttle body on a forking manifold'd be nice. Hardly riders get heaps of ready made ones to choose from. An SU to bolt on and $10 of parts every 300k, packet of Tally's, a nail file, er... swiss army knife, and you'll never miss a Birdsville race again! Nice injector info tho', ta mate.
Ah, it's kind of interesting stuff ... the XLV carbs aren't all that reliable ... well, they never seem to _die_, but they get out of balance or sticky sliders or torn diaphragms a bit too often. Given it's the luggiest engine I've ever ridden, maybe I should be working out how to fit a single downdraft ... Don't tell anyone, but I think I must be going bicameral or something because I've been looking at piccies of FXDXs ... and I think I had a bit of a crush on a caféd Sportster once ... -----sharks
