What exactly is this "Class of '96" of which you speak? [1].

    1. Have a motorbike in the same country that I live in.
    2. Ride more than 80 miles this year.

Check. Mine currently looks like a bomb's hit it.

What's the received wisdom for garage storage - make your own from 2x4 and
bits of old worktop, or get the modular pine utility-room stuff from IKEA?

Just another 10-15 years and the three of them will have the experience
    to ride properly

Heh. I don't have anything particularly planned apart from:
    Go snowboarding.
    Go to the TT.

I sorted mine recently with the help of a few free-standing plastic
racking units from Argos. They only take a couple of minutes to
assemble, are very, very light, & plenty strong enough for the usual
garage fodder. Basically, they rock - well not literally, but ykwim.

well, I was going to ask you, actually, 'cos I know you've done it
    before.

Is there anywhere that does it that isn't in Wales or the fucking
    North?

Only when you intend to go off road, otherwise it tends to hurt.

    Speculative desire, shall we say.

Brakes just don't work (master cylinder's fucked, need to get my arse in
    gear
and replace it) and the bodywork suffered when the 7R decided to have a
    daily
lay-down on the spring French run.

    So no biggy.

Oxfordshire/Berkshire borders. There aren't so many boulders round there.

The place I used in Macclesfield was probably the best, though - much more
challenging, but also highly knackering. You can also go out for a night on
the town in Macc and laugh at all the hilarious local inbreeds.
