Was shown at the Milan show but info on the web is scanty, spoke to the
Aussie Cagiva importer (Paul Feeney) at the Sydney show on Sunday and
confirmed that it ('07 Cagiva Mito 500) is coming next year. He didn't
have any details except that Paolo apparently told him on the phone
it's a 500 twin not a single. The little info I could glean is below.

For those who aren't aware Cagiva used to own Ducati, and when the 916
was launched they also launched a 125 2 stroke (which is a large
learner market in EU) in the same body shape - the Cagiva Mito.

The new 500 will be the same ultra light weight sports bike but with a
light weight 500 single or twin - should stack up at about 130
something Kgs and 50 odd HP (125 has about 25HP) - a learner legal in
NSW /ACT "916-a like" and should be a lot of fun to ride.

  2. Damn... Who else immediately though "Wow! a Mito with a 500cc two
stroke!" only to be a little let down with "50 odd hp"???

    Oh well...

  3. Nah, the real giveaway is surely "60hp" - weren't RG500's putting out
    90-100hp "back in the day"?
    Yeah...

    Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead - yeah a 4stroke - supermono. It's a
popular racing class in US and EU supposedly - 500-660cc 4stroke
singles in light frames - usually 125 and 250 strokes - although there
were a couple of factory ones released (Ducati supermono - which was a
916 or 900ss motor with one cylinder missing and the spare rod used as
a balance weight IIRC - Yam SZR660 etc)

    JL
(I'd love them to release a 500cc 2 smoker but with emissions laws the
way they are - no chance :-( They have enough trouble getting the baby
    smokers over the line)

Sorry - bad wording - 125 or 250cc donor frame then add a dirt bike
single cylinder 500-660cc motor = most supermonos

Heheh a cunning plan to get it past the killjoys in the RTA and
    engineering blueslips -

"but see, I took out a 500cc motor and I put another 500cc motor in -
no need for engineering approval" :)

    JL
(must look up the regs, I'm pretty sure engine swaps of plus or minus
10% of the existing capacity don't require engineering approval -def
used to be the case :)

Well, if I find a decent Mito with a stuffed motor and cheap enough,
I'll have one with an RZ250/350 motor fitted, please.

Aprilia ones yes , honda ones no

either lacking of oil or over revved and rod exits block, which finding a
    replacement
motor is near impossible for a decent price

Trouble is, there exists a person who has done all the fiddly stuff, and
can supply, off the shelf, mounting plates for RZ250 motor into Mito frame.

I don't know of an equivalent for RS, either Honda or Aprilia.

Well, the WR450 is LAMS compliant, it's lighter than the Mito 500 and it
doesn't claim much less than 60hp at the crank.
