I have considered a trailer to be honest, that would certainly give me
    enough space :)

OK - the most likely candidate is Jupiter if it was recent - the moon
moves pretty quickly through the sky so date/time would be handy - other
wise it could be almost anything.

George... I was clearly being too esoteric for _you_.

    Clue[1] Goto http://216.92.113.163/item.php?item_id=240 this
    relates to a Meade 1060-Research Series (10 inch Newtonian-Equatorial)
    telescope.

Clue[2] On that page, under the heading "Why I obtained this
Scope", you will find the following words: "I was introduced to the
world of catadioptrics and esoteric telescope systems".

The towbar's the same as the Breva, Classic Industries fitted mine and
    they had it in stock.

You have to cut slots in the tailpiece for the bars that go from the
rear subframe to the towbar. I fitted LED lights to the trailer,
seemed to work better than normal ones.

    I suspect the 4' x 3.5' trailer frame from easytrailer.com.au would work
well as a general purpose bike trailer with a bit of homework as to
    box/platform.

  9. 3 weeks ago and close to the moon the most likely candidate would be
Saturn, both low in the northern sky around 7:00pm. Saturn can appear to
be bluish-white; Jupiter is more orange-white. Jupiter has not been
visible close to the moon for a long time.

I'd be a bit concerned about the wheel bearings in those running loaded
    at speed to be honest.

I'm sort of leaning towards an ali-lite.

  12. You missed it Gerry, right over the top
I was referring to the bike, the Newton Commando

or for you, a Norton Commando
so I asked: ""Not easy too see Gerry? ""

Norton ESII ( an Easy 2 Gerry )

Buggered if I know, but I can assure you that apart from very close
comets and maybe a nova in our own galaxy, no night-sky object is
going to be brighter than the full moon. If it was near the horizon
just after sunset it might have been Venus.

This link shows some events like that which have happened or will
    happen this year:

As far as seeing Mercury, to my knowledge from an earth-bound vantage
point it will never be more than 1 or 2 degrees away from the sun (and
1 degree is approximately the width of the solar or lunar disk). I've
    been wrong before, though.

Eh? There was me thinking that the Earth and Venus were about the
    same diameter (~12,000km)?

I'm no astronomer, mind you... ;-)

Don't you already own an outfit? How big is this bloody telescope of
    yours anyway?

So how did you keep the shutter going?
remote or did you sit there snapping each frame under continuous shooting?
