86 IIRC was when unleaded cars with cats came in here

but Jap bikes would have been sorted for unleaded well before that

 

Hence the name.

I thought they introduced it with random breath testing in 1984!

 

Considering the low compression of most 2pokes even back in the '70's
when I ran MacIII and MaciV the cheapest fuel possible still didn't
cause problems or pinging , short of kero the year has little relevance
unless a VERY old machine shows up .

 

Do keep up Atec. The question was(paraphrased) "how old a 250 can I get
that's still unleaded".

I did with qualification of 2pokes , where did I mention uber revy 4 pokes ?

 

and I first parsed that as "2 spokes" and thought "gee, you'd
wanna stop it with one up/one down, wouldn't ya!"
