    Hey

I am going to do my test soon and am thinking of what bike to get

I dont really want anything more than a 500. I have seen a few models I
    like the look of:

    Honda VFR400
    Suzuki GS500
    Yaman RD350/400

I want something stylish and not too boring, I found the Honda CB500 a
bit dull looking. It will have to be comfortable enough for 2/3 hour
riding and I'd prefer a low sear as I'm a short arse.

Would any of those models be good or has anyone else got any
    suggestions

    Ta

Personally, I'd consider the CB500. I've hired one a few times whilst on
holiday and found them to be great fun.

    Anything's fun after owning a VFR800i.

Buy the RD400 and put a smile on your face.

Not the GS. Horrible bikes they are, terrible things and vastly
overpriced too, even 2nd hand and wore out. So overpriced in fact I can
    only afford 2.

Kawasaki ER-5 or GPZ500. Originally thought to be bullet proof and
ultra-reliable until UKRMers individually destroyed three in the space
    of a month.

Beware of buying any older bike.............you can spend a very large
amount of money and have very little to show for it!

In particular the old Yams can be a nightmare, and I would advise you to
    steer well clear.

Buy something more modern, unless you are looking for a project and dont
mind spending money, and enjoy working on bikes.
