3 days on the continent

I'm at a loose end for the coming bank holiday weekend. I'm tempted to
buy a Channel Tunnel ticket & take my CBR600F over to the continent.

Can anyone suggest a good 3 day itinerary? Not interested in spending
all day on the autoroutes/autobahns etc - looking for some good scenery
and nice twisty roads to practice on!

    Grateful for any suggestions.

    Alan.

I should probably point out that I live in London so I can get down to
the Channel Tunnel terminal in an hour or so.

Also should I consider Wales or Scotland as an alternative? Again, any
    suggested routes?

Only been over once on the bike and that was this spring's French Run -
stayed in Sedan and ventured into Belgium - this is the Ardennes region
    - and there were some fantastic roads. I intend to return.

Also I've heard that the Harz Mountains in Germany are worth a visit -
a bit of a stretch for three days but does anyone have any info?

Alan emerged from their own little world to say
As it is bank holiday I would find a place to stay for the 3 nights and use
it as a base to do some tours.

Eiffel Mountains/Mosel are just 300 miles from Calais. Trier is a nice
place to use as a base. Book hotels at www.trier.de (there's a GB flag to
get the site in English). I stayed in Hotel Garni Grund when I was there.
Central location and off street parking for the bike.

For UK try www.smoothound.co.uk for B&Bs, inns & hotels.

    Wot he said....
Plus - Slap bang in the middle of the Eifel Region is a wonderful stretch of
tarmac more commonly known as the Nurburgring Nordschleiffe.

I can reconmend the Hotel an der Nordschleiffe which is run by a top geezar
    by the name of Eddie.

The Harz is a nice enough region, been there a few times visitng my
brother when he was in the army there, bit of a trek for three days
    though.

You'd be better having a bimble around Loire/Normandy/Brittany or maybe
the Champage region with such a short time frame.

  11. Next year's spring run looks like being a repeat, actually, so stay
    tuned.

You're right - it's a brilliant spot. Hotel was good, too.

  14. Not sure where the Harz mountains are[1], but you can certainly make
the Black Forest in 8 hours from Calais. One day there, find a hotel,
one day riding round the BF, third day back. Watch out for BF roads with
lower speed limits specifically for motorbikes! (Can't remember exactly
where, but I have seen them.)

In any event, beware the lack of petrol in France on a Sunday!

[1] Ah, _there_ they are -- a few hours more than the Black Forest and
    Schwabian Jura, I guess.

    Cheers, I'll look into it.

Been thinking of only having the hotel booking and sorting our own
ferries, though, so we don't have to do so many miles in the UK, IYSWIM.

Or less. It's only seven hours or so to Basel and there's a fair bit
of BF not far North of here.
The Vosges is much closer, and IMO better.
    Bastards. Never come across that.
Apparently the later UK Chip & Pin cards _do_ now work in most French
    machines,
