If like me you use a 3G modem/laptop on a regular basis you might find
    something like this useful.

    www.amazon.co.uk/Zoom-3G-Wireless-N-Travel-Router/dp/B002SXMH12/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1277837053&sr=8-1

I hadn't heard of them or thought enough about it to look around but I was
getting frustrated by the (even) worse data performance as I moved around
the locale with my lappy. Then someone told me about them. These work an
absolute treat. Use your phone to find a strong signal and plonk it down.

Not that it will stop me terminating the Orange data service when my
contract expires. 3G data being utter fucking pants compared to the original
    technology/network promises (1)

    (1) that isn't an open door for SP to explain why it has to be. I already
    know

Pretty much what the Three 'MiFi' does - I bought one from Three,
unlocked it and installed generic firmware. (Strangely, I found all the
    info. on David Icke's blog)

Much better than using a standard stick.

    I don't use a Three SIM.

They're just convenient and cheap for buying the hardware.

    Humm... why the spit?

I've got a 3 dongle, and other than the occasional outage when they've
been upgrading the network, it's been pretty good - downloads at
around 220k per sec (1) when on form, too.

    (1) Might not sound like much, but in 3G terms, that's pretty good.

  10. Surprised it took them this long.
I had a 3G dongle as my only BB connection for 3 years. In the first two
years it was great, but Vodafone had to go and advertise the **** out of
the service, so every bugger and his dog piled on to it. Exit me, as
soon as proper wired BB was available.

Well you have two problems. The Base Station technology, Burnt could tell us
more about that, and BT. Or to be more concise the thorny question of
    backhaul.

The trouble with the 3G fiasco is the obstruction of superior technology
that could have covered the main population centers and trunk routes.
