Federal agents make Hell's Angels arrests in San Jose
AUTHORITIES SWEPT THROUGH SITES FROM SANTA CRUZ TO SACRAMENTO

Armed with search and arrest warrants, federal agents and local police
swooped in to arrest dozens of Hells Angels Motorcycle Club members today
in San Jose, Santa Cruz, Richmond, San Francisco and Sacramento.

The sting was part of a two-year investigation involving authorities in
five states looking into gun-running and other criminal activities
centered in Northern California, a federal law enforcement spokeswoman
    said.

The warrants, made at dawn this morning, remain under seal.

In all, 250-300 local and federal officers were took part in the raids and
searches, said Inspector Marti McKee, with the San Francisco Field
Division of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The FBI was not involved in the morning raids, McKee said, and she was not
aware of any link to terrorism.

In San Francisco, neighbors in the area of Tennessee and 22nd streets were
surprised to wake up and find the street blocked off by police and federal
agents. McKee said that raid centered around the San Francisco Hell's
Angels headquarters and involved the participation of local police.

``San Francisco police did the entry and secured the scene,'' she said.
``Now that they've taken care of that, ATF agents are going in to
    search.''

Raids were also conducted in Southern California, Nevada, Arizona,
    Washington and Alaska.

By late morning, following the 6 a.m. raids, 17 people were in custody
related to the 24 Northern California arrest warrants and 29 search
warrants. All told, 85 search warrants and 35 to 40 arrest warrants were
    executed, McKee said.

McKee declined to disclose specific details about why these places and
individuals were targeted, other than to say the two-year investigation
looked into firearms trafficking and other criminal activity.

She said she could not reveal more about the Northern California aspect of
the operation until the warrants were unsealed, perhaps as early as this
afternoon. News conferences were scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today in Los
Angeles County, and 9 a.m. Thursday in Phoenix and Reno.

I assume this is a follow on to the posting-length conversation.

I personally find un-commented URL's a bit smug. Here, I toss this at your
feet - pick it up. Give us a couple sentences about what we'll find there,
and how you think it fits the discussion or group.

Of course, and like Statman, I'm not fond of clipping services either.

    Ted,

You are absolutely right, and in a chemo-induced funk, I read the intial
post about the HA bust, and wondered "is this fact?" then found a
substantiative link, posted it, and did not explain myself.

    I should have.

tennessee and 22nd, I remember when the bikers used to have that dead-end
street all to themselves, with pits on patrol to alert the bikers of any
intrusion, they will be missed as a counter-point to the blandness of the
lofties, but I bet we should be able to pick up some trick Harleys soon at
    the cops' auction.......
