I don't mind mind if my pies are mature or extra mature. I'm very
    open minded.

  10. I'm his Dad. Used to have a CBR750 Hurricane about 18 months ago.

Bought Laddo a 2004 Varadero 125 in May this year when he turned 17.
He finally got himself a job and 1st pay cheque went on a training
coure with Anchor Motorcycles in Wakefield. He passed with 7 minor's.

Now he wants a bigger bike that we can "share" - yeah right. Anyways
he's after a sporty looking bike which will give some more umppphhh but
not a white knuckle ride just yet. Dream bike he says would be R1 or
    blackbird.

Me. I'm just hiding the insurance upgrade costs from the wife and when
he sells the Dero I'll chuck a few hundred into the pot for a better
bike as well. The Dero is poorly at the mo as forgot to top up the oil
and toped it up before doing his training course on it. It didn't run
out completely but bike started making a tapping/clattering noise.
It's in bits at Castle Motorcycles pending a warranty claim/mechanic to
fix bearing and gaskets ???? He's dealing with it not me.

  12. He's got **** all chance of a warranty repair if he ran it out of oil.
In fact, I didn't think it was possible to run a newish Honda out of oil
at all - they never seem to use any between the recommended changes.

Remind me never to book a bike in for attention at Anchor Motorcycles in
    Wakefield....

No, Anchor is the trainign school which got him trough the test.
Castle Honda are doing the repairs.

I did wonder why it seemed to drink the oil like a Scotsman returning
    from 6 months in Saudi.

But it didn't run completely out he says - it was below the min mark
    though.

Castle didn't tell us what the service interval was (they claim 2,500
miles on a dero 125) and it's still under manufacturer's warranty (or
so they sold me the bike with). Can't be sure whether they are on dodgy
ground coz if it's a 2,500 mile service interval I think the bike's
only been serviced once from new at 6,800 miles, which would mean
previous owner invalidated warranty yet they sold it to me under "still
got 2 years manufactures warranty left".

Hmm... We'll wait any see I guess.

  14. Ah. My bad. Sorry.
Bad enough, on an OHC machine.
If all it's had is the first free service at 600-odd miles, then I'm not
    surprised it's buggered.

  15. Just spoke to them. They've put the whole thing through on a warranty
    claim and it's been accepted.

Anyone know why it might have been buring the oil in the first place ?

Didn't have smoke coming out of exhaust and no oil leaks.

The 6ft 4in chimp liked to change up with clutch though - now he's had
a week of training that's been sorted.

There's nothing wrong with changing up without using the clutch, as
long as you do it well.

From what you describe it looks like the only service it's had is the
first free one which happens at around 700 miles or before. That
means it's missed about two of them.

  18. Blimey. That's a result.
It holds about a teacupful. From what you say, it hasn't been looked at
in nearly 6000 miles. All engines burn *some*, generally a negligible
amount, but with no attention at all, the engine wear will have been
accelerated with the dirty oil, and burning (say) 150ml in 1000 miles
means damn nearly a litre in 6000 miles.
Well, as others say, that's not really a problem and won't affect the
    oil consumption.
