I thought the general consensus in ukrm was something like
"I always stick to 30/40 limits but NSL is fair game"

    So we'll see...

  4. I think that's true of most folk here.
I also like the idea that if there is going to be an enforced speed
limit it's one law for all not police exempt. "Crime fighting guys
    excused".

Using "always" may have been a bit harsh. It's so easy to think
you're pootling along at about 30 and on checking the speedo
    it's a fair bit over.
Yep, I'm moving from this position...
....to this one more and more rapidly.

I know exactly what you mean. The 50 limit part of the A40 out
of London is getting further and further out. If it had a 70 limit a
year ago, why has it suddenly now got a 50 limit?
I don't recall much speed-related carnage there previously.

    Switch to video game rules:

You have <speed limit> seconds to clear this stage.

Yebbut nobbut .... what about these here "Average Speed Limits" in
force? They don't have a speed camera, they have the plate-reading
cameras and a computer, which together work out your average speed for
the stretch. I've only seen one so far, in roadworks, (I don't get
around much) but surely only a matter of time before they extend them to
    ordinary roads?

But 'ang on. If you're on a bike ... how can they read your plate? As
    you were, I suppose.

That used to be my approach, & still is to a certain extent, but less &
less so as time passes. I used to have a certain begrudging respect for
30/40 limits & solid white lines as they actually /meant/ something, &
were usually there for a reason.

These days however they're just used as traffic calming measures, or
because it's easier than correcting the problem with dangerous
junctions, or a local councillor lives on the road, or Saturn's in
    Uranus, or...

Therefore I have little respect for them anymore, & generally speaking,
they can go **** themselves - especially the white lines.

CT emerged from their own little world to say
    all the way to Pembrokeshire.

The bit of the A40 that annoys me most, although less since I moved, is the
section between Over & Ross-on-Wye. Firstly they put double white lines
almost everywhere followed by 30-50 limits for most of its length.

I forgot to add: the original case was heard by a judge in Telford.
Referring it to a lower court in Ludlow should be interesting: the blue
rinse JPs there don't think much of their fellow Salopians from the north.

"The guidelines allow for officers to exceed limits, but never to drive

Seems I need at least another 16mph from the GS to be on the safe side
then. I'll get to work on them sticky brakes soonest I reckon.

    Original story from 2005
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/shropshire/4458527.stm
Mr Milton was brought in front of Ludlow Magistrates since he appears for
the prosecution in a lot of Telford court cases.
Passed to the District Judge for sentencing.
    Appeal from CPS
so it all goes back to the original court to be done all over again.

Given the charges he will probably be passed to District Judge again.

Hopefully given the furore the new judge will give a differently considered
    sentence.

With the rather obvious but *utterly* irrelevant side comments that I:

    #completly ignore all speed limits
#drive past my local school at 10-20 when the pupils are around
    #30-40 when they are not
#average 60 on the nearby 40 dual carriageway unless the Talivan is
    around
    #often exceed 160
#always drive/ride with my eyes wide open and brain engaged

My plea to ALL Plod is until the fuckwit politicians and legal beagles,
who basically just object to your existence, are soundly beaten about
the head with a big stick, refuse high speed chase and armed duties. Do
    the basic job only.

Basildon slapped a blanket 50 limit on a few years ago under the pretext
of Clean Air. Presumably the added maintenance money since has helped
stop my council tax rising as fast as it could.

  18. Had a few dealings with Ludlow magistrates meself. Mind you, they were
all at least 70 yo back then in the 70s, so there may have been some
    natural wastage by now.
