'97 TL1000s leaking coolant? Where to get parts?

My '97 Suzuki TL1000S is leaking oolant from the weep hole on the crank case
front, near the water pump housing. I assume it's coming from a leaky shaft
seal on the pump. Is that the case? If so, how do I fix it? Can I replace
the seal, or do I just buy a new pump? If the latter, where do I cget one?
Is there significant money to be saved by buying OS?

    Thanks,

    Steve C.

  2. I've had this and other related problems on a couple of Kwaks. Kwaka don't
sell the seals for the pump, so my guess is the other manufactures won't
    either.

That having been said, it's a pretty easy repair to do yourself, but you
have to be prepared for your bike to be off the road while you source a
    replacement seal.

Drain the oil and the coolant and remove the water pump.

Completely dissassemble the water pump (this will require a press, as there
    are bearing and seals etc).

BEWARE - THERE WILL BE CIRCLIPS IN THERE so don't just go maddly pressing
away. Do things slowly, remove seals with needle nose pliers etc.

Keep all the seals and bearings in as good nick as possible, then take them
to your local bearing place, and get them to match them all for you.

Wherever possible, replace seals without springs with sprung seals. This
makes a fair difference to their effectiveness.

Put it all back together, (again using a press) being careful to do
overything in the correct order etc.

Put new oil and coolant in.

If you're in Sydney and don't have a press, feel free to drop around
sometime and you can borrow mine.

I wouldn't be riding around with a coolant leak for too long though. That
    stuff is SLIP_ER_Y!!!

  8. Not "water-pump" seals, water pump OIL seals. There is a big difference.

my attempt to contact you privately failed so:
don't know where you are.... Mick Hone in Melb has been very helpful
with me, and he runs a mail order service...
    03 9890 0304 or www.mickhone.com.au
    from the SV manual:
before draining engine oil and coolant, inspect engine oil and coolant
    leakage
between the water pump and clutch cover... if coolant is leaking, then
there is a mechanical seal and a seal ring that will need inspection and
probably replacing. The manual suggests the use of special tools... you
may be able to remove the pump and send it for repair, but they would
    best advise you of that.

  10. Well, according to the manual, the seal on the impeller shaft is called
the "Oil Seal" and thats the one I replaced. It was a Kawasaki, I
bought the seal from a Kawasaki dealer <shrug> YMMV.

  11. Fairy Nuff.

    (Impeller shaft, or impeller housing?)

Could be that they sell it for the KRwhateveritwas, but not for the ZX10,
    GPXTooFiddly, ZZR600 etc etc

Yeah, well, all things considered that breakdown could have been a lot
worse. The fact that it happened at a petrol station, with a friendly
mechanic, in a town where I knew people, next door to a parts shop
that had the pump I needed on the shelf...

It doesn't get much better, does it?
