Having the trailer on the back of the R100RT has caught me out once
buck luckily only at slow speed. Well it wasn't really 'caught out'
but more not remembering just how near the kerb the trailer wheel was.

No problem filtering as the trailer is a couple of inches narrower
than the touring cases. The Mrs (also often towing a trailer behind
her XV750 and generally following me) says it does freak the car
drivers out sometimes because the trailers 'look' big.

As I have said before, I was there, watching at signpost when he did it.
My mate who was with me at the time would know for sure as he was a
Rover nut. In fact he used to be in the support crew for a loon who
    rallied an 'SD1'.

BTW, SO rally cars whizzing round mid Wales this Saturday. Off to watch
the 'Bulldog Rally' at Dyfnant we are.

Hoping it is far enough south to be out of Brunstrom territory.

It WAS good though, not *having* to wear a lid. At my advanced age I
wouldn't consider not wearing one now, but I can still remember how good it
felt when I rode without one.

    <fx fast forward 30 years>

Wouldn't it be nice to ride without having to wear an airbag suit and
seatbelts and on bikes with more than 50bhp infernal confusion engines with
brake levers on th' andlebars connected directly to t' calipers, like wot
they used to in t' good owd 2000's? I can even remember when bikes didn't
    have airbags.

A pal of mine has supercharged a V-Max with a "Magnacharger".

    Nice it is too.

Google "Magnacharger" and I'll lay odds you'll find something you'd like.

  8. I think you and Jim have been whooshed. I'm referring to one of ukrm's
finer exploits. Darsy used to have it on a website.

    Urgh!

Can people stop mentioning V-Maxes, please.

I'm getting tempted to try one to see whether or not the grunt is enough to
compensate for the 'interesting handling characteristics'.

You might want to consider the "brakes" issue too.

<examines scar on left wrist ruefully>

The noise though! I still get a semi when I think of that noise...

You don't need to see plug leads, you can hear it's a V6 when you watch
the lap with the sound up.

Yes - Dyfed-Powys have their own force and tend to be less cuntish than
their northern fundamentalist colleagues. Approach from Shrewsbury &
Welshpool and you will stay out of the Badland.

Depending on cost, I would have thought there must be some sort of favoured
aftermarket solution for these by now.
Have you actually owned one then?

If so, are they *that* bad once you've got the initial rude awakening to the
brakes / handling out the way?

    I have.
No. I may well own another one day. But they really, really need a
rudely loud exhaust system. Mine was Dutch, and I can't remember the
name (I've had a bang on the wrist, you know). Steve Loukes may recall
    it.

Oh, a fuel bowser that can keep up would be another definite advantage.

Seriously, I'm not convinced it was *that* much faster than anything
else I've ridden. But it *felt* fucking quick.

    And that noise...

When UKRM did "Camps it up in Cornwall" Ellie's kid was sitting at the
fire, suddenly looked up and said "Oh cool! A Chinook!". Three minutes
later I trundled onto the campsite...
