I've a set waiting to be grafted onto the FJ12. My R1 MC is side
exiting and the banjo's go downwards, in front of the bars.

I can well believe it. My 800's power steering failed, in that the
valve in the steering rack stuck so that it was constantly powering
hard-a-port. It was drivable at low speed but parking required two
hands - left to its own devices the steering wheel spun left until it
hit the end stop. After about fifteen minutes playing, I noticed a hot
smell coming from somewhere. When I opened the bonnet, I found that
the casing of the power steering pump was smoking heavily, it was
blisteringly hot as I found to my cost when I touched it.

AIUI, hydraulic power steering systems do get warm in use, which is
why Rover looped the power steering pipes across in front of & below
the radiator, to aid cooling. My 820 did have very light steering, so
at a guess, the power steering system would be working pretty hard on
bumpy IOM roads.

 

That reminds me: many, many moons past MCN did an article asking why
the Govt wouldn't support motorcycles. I wrote in some idiot bollocks
about the fact that all bikes were imported, so no financial
incentive. They didn't publish my letter, but a couple of weeks later,
they did a small article saying pretty much the same thing.

Could've been coincidence, of course, or maybe I heard something
similar elsewhere and thought I'd thought up something original.

bent.

Now, I know for a fact that a GTR1400 m/c set-up fits and works just
fine.
