    Hi All

Can anyone tell me what item 22 on the following link does, I found this
spring broken under my bike after cleaning and was wondering if it will wait
till next service, looks like it has been broken for a while and all appears
    ok with the bike

    http://www.davidcthomas.co.uk/bandit.htm

It seems that it hooked onto item 18 and the cover plate.

Any help would be really great, David

This is a wind-up, right? You've found a spring lying on the ground
underneath your bike and have identified it as a part that lives
    inside the gearbox?

I suggest that the spring you've _actually_ found is from something
entirely different. Things like brake light activation switches, side-
or centre-stands retainers, side-stand cutout switch, etc. spring to
    mind.

    Brake pedal return spring?

Are you sure it's the spring on the diagram?
How big is it and what colour: silver or black?

Someone who still owns a Bandit will arrive shortly and can take a torch
outside and have a look :)

No I don't think it is from inside the gearbox, I'm stupid but not quite
that stupid, it was hanging by one end on the inside of the cover next to
the gear lever and it fell off whilst cleaning the cover.

I think you've found a rear brake light switch spring. press the footbrake
and see if the brake light is working.

I have just put another pic on that web page point to where the spring was,
short of removing the gear lever, mechanism and cover, I can't seem to see
what it was connected to... plus it's orrible 'n' wet and I haven't a
    garage... bugger !

Oh sorry, yeah I'm about 5'8", 12 stone and I'm sort of a pinkie colour...
but let me tell you about the spring.

50mm long, 8mm dia and is silver.

    Do not ride the bike!!!!!!

The pin has now fallen out of the grenade and ANY movement Will set it
    off...

Move the bike CAREFULLY out of the garage and away from any dwellings...

Remove all fire hazards (including clothing) and saturate the gearbox in
    Uric Acid.

    Then piss-off.

I'm not an expert but it looks a bit like a centre stand spring to me.
That doesn't explain how it got into the cover bit though. Perhaps it
    sprang there, who knows?

Checked the bike over and all seems to be working fine !

Wondered if it was of the neutral light switch or something ?

Well it's got me stumped but that aint difficult.

Fell off something else which has nothing to do with your bike?

[the case of the Phantom Spring]

[disclaimer] I've not got a Bandit6, nor have I looked terribly
closely at this area of one.

However, I did have a Bandit12, and I now have an RF900 which are out
of adjacent parts bins down at Hometown Suzuki.

I reckon what you have there is one of the two sidestand return
springs. They carry two concentrically (as it were), a thick one and
a thin one, and I think one of yours has snapped and done a partial
runner. Don't worry about it unless your bike starts cutting out and
back in again when you go over bumps in the road.

Hmm, just checked and both the concentric side stand spings are in place,
    but nice thinking though.

Think I may have to start offering a prize of a pint to the first person to
    correctly identify this spring.

Do you think my neutral light switch spring (if there is one) is a non
    starter ?

Hey, since the spring broke I've been posting at the bottom at last...
wonder if there is a connection, it's a "top posting spring" :)

It is a return spring for the clutch actuation lever which is inside the
aforementioned cover. Used to make sure that the actuation lever does not
exert pressure on the clutch release pushrod when the cluth lever is fully
release. I know cos mine was broke and the other day when I took the cover
off to inspect the front sprocket it just fell out. Just hook it up from the
hole it was dangling on to the spare hole on the clutch release lever and
    all will be well again.

  19. Go here:

    http://www.sukbog.co.uk/tech/fiches/bandit600.html

Third row down, middle frame, item 25. It keeps the tension on the
clutch cable/pushrod interface mechanism thingy. And no, you can't
    have mine.

    can fit it back tomorrow.
