  1. Wrong.

Lidar uses the reflection time of a train of LASER pulses from the
nominal target to measure the rate of change of distance between
successive pulses. This is a very different method of operation to
Doppler shift in the microwave band.

  2. I'm suprised you didn't flame him for not being able to spell
    Majesty.

    [snip]
    It's only Usenet.
They're mad not reading what goes on in here; IMHO.
Perhaps they have misconceptions about the nature of the
    participants.
Shane cops a lot more flack. He's less of a diplomat and takes
arguments personally that he really shouldn't.

  3. Show us that you don't have WMD. Bet you can't.
Were you born like that or did you crash without a helmet?

  4. Time for you to learn to shut up and
to check your facts before you argue.

Operating principles are entirely different. Lidar doesn't measure
frequency shift. There's no convenient way to establish a beat
frequency to measure the shift as is the case with microwave
    sources.

He's a nancy boy with a very blinkered view of the world trying to be an
intellectual pygmy amongst the smarter and more educated individuals in
    this group.
classic case of dumb arse hick who can't match it intellectually so goes
off on a tirade of abuse and denial when the going gets tough.
spooky can be more diplomatic but also gets defensive when some things
are pointed out to him as wrong and he goes all narky and falls into
    beaurocratic mode.
    Like quotas.:)

    To be honest, I didn't notice :)
That's true. I'd certaily hope that if face to face
in a discussion group, the atmosphere would be a
    tad friendlier.
Some of them do, or have but they dont comment or stick
around long enough see a thread through. This is because
(I think) they dont have the patience to sit here and type away
endless lines, to press a point that wont be received anyway.
I don't know. Shane cops a lot of flack, but I dont think
he cops any more than me really. He takes some things
personally, yes, but it's hard not to when we're the ones sitting
here defending something we believe in, and our bosses are not.

LOL! If it were face to face then you can bet the farm that most of the
loud-mouths in here would suddenly fall very silent =)

Similar thing happened to me once - following night duty - driving home at
7:30am and there is a police car on a side street which was trying to roll
through a stop sign to get out ahead of me. I was taking off from a set of
lights so I accelerated just a little harder to make him wait a bit longer.
He tailgated me for a kilometre or two, then stopped me - made a similar
comment about speed then checked me for the presence of ethanol on the
breath, and went on his merry way...

I don't blame the police officer, I was being an arsehole, but I suddenly
became aware of how much of an arsehole I can be when I haven't slept for 36
hours - I used to get very possessive of the road in front, which is very
uncharacteristic of my normal driving (at least post teenage years!)...

I have told you my story in the past of a police officer in Qld who had
pulled me over at an RBT. To refresh your memory of the story there was a
line of three cars being breathalysed and there was an officer on a
motorcycle ready to pursue. A early (VB/VC) commodore crested the hill and
saw the multitude of police in front of him - mounted a traffic island and
performed a U-turn... the police officer on the bike asked for permission to
pursue from the officer breathalysing me - his reply was don't bother we've
got enough for tonight... referring to the line of cars left on the side of
the road waiting for someone to pick them up...

Now I will concede that the statement made by the officer does not imply
that a required number of convictions had been reached, but it did indicate
the inherent laziness of the Qld police force - "we've done enough to make
it look like we have done our job - anything else is too much effort"...

  11. Speaking of which.
Can you get a message to him?
I was gonna send him a copy of a radar fine pic along with one taken
of the area concerned that isn't cropped as I suspect the offence one
    was.
    Still doing that.
Problem is that the 'authorities' got out and did a little creative
work with some highly reflective signs in the frame. This may or may
not be the result of a complaint I made:)

So I now need to borrow a powerful flash and fire up my old 35mm SLR
to get a meaningful shot of the field with similar lighting to the
offence pic. This is because it's required to 'see' the signs
concerned now that they've been spun so as not to be such an obvious
    reflection problem.

You didn't answer spook, does that mean you agree the above scenario is
    likely?

  13. Amazingly enough that's been done right here in sunny QLD.
Seems to work well enough - uses LED speed signs which are very
    effective.
I note that one of them appears to have gone faulty, with a section of
the sign not running properly. About 20 Degrees of it's red ring
    (ouch) is US.
I have to comment on the design.
The led's appear to be arranged in groups that may not be all that
    cleverly considered:)
What with kiddies, rocks etc.. the LEDs should be arranged on their
board(s) radially so the sign works effectively after being hit on.

Sorry, but I *can't* be the only person who notices these things???

Yeh, I remember the story. It Is laziness. Those ones that
take off, like that Commodore, are exactly the ones we want to
get. Even bold curiosity would have me wanting to get him, just
    to see why he ran.

Pointless being so silly with that sort of stuff.

    Typical complete wank basically.

Its as stupid as the completely wanky titles the stupid elected
politicians have, and in their case its actually flagrant lie, nothing
'honourable' about almost all of them, utterly corrupt and completely
dishonourable pathological liars most of them.
    Nothing like in fact.
Another mindlessly silly wank, like shaking hands is too.

And calling people Mr etc too.

  20. That's fine by me, but I can't help notice that you don't give any
reasons for this inability of yours.
I've occasionally sat in the back to get some insight, especially when
I've got an upcoming appearance. (or a relative or friend)
Some of my appearances I've been the plaintiff :)
