Me, I'm just trying to work out why they put those
metal 'Taxi Caps' on the toes of off-road boots, but
not on road boots. Seems like a complete contradiction
    to me!

My point *precisely*. You're *still* blaming the
victim, you *still* haven't learned a thing from
the exercise. Clearly, the magistrate got it wrong.

There was talk of automatic jail time for road
rage linked offences, in NSW at least. Did that one
    ever fly?

Nothing really, but the effect is cumulative. If you
happen to strike someone with a foot in both camps,
then be wary - we're doubly mad!

Actually, I'd like a qualification - perhaps Spooky you
can answer? ISTR something to the effect of failing to
give way to someone who is trying to merge into a stream
of traffic when they have nowhere else to go, notwithstanting
that you have technical right of way, is A Bad Thing (tm).

    Thoughts?

When two cars can't work that out, quickly and simply
between themselves, I reckon they are both at fault. You
know, one speeds up so the other can't get in, and the
other pushes its way in anyway. CRASH, or, the start
of a nasty road rage incident that lasts for the next 5 k's.

In that case common courtesy should prevail.

    Wot he said.
If you were genuinely sorry then you wouldn't be talking about your victim.
You are like a person who had a biscuit stolen from you so in
retribution you lopped off their hands and burned down their house to
    make up for it.
Get over yourself you don't deserve to be on the road with such an attitude.

    SmeeR11S, Dec 14, 2004
  10. Yeah, but "common courtesy" is much like "common sense", they're both
_far_ less common than their names would suggest...

In fact, if he genuinely thought that physical violence was the wrong
thing to do, then he wouldn't be talking the way he is.

He clearly believes he was right to attack her, and is presumably proud
of being able to convince the judge he was sorry. Proud of lying in
    other words.

Until he realises that there is no such thing as right of way, until he
realises that in return for being allowed to drive on the road he has
accepted that he has obligations and that he failed to honour them,
    he'll still be a danger.

I expect the recent death from a road-rage incident may encourage
    mandatory sentences in NSW.

Me, I figure that at every licence renewal, everyone should have to
recite "there is no right of way, only duty to give way, I must do
everything I possibly can to avoid a crash, I do not have a right to
drive on the road, it is a privilege I am allowed to have as long as I
    behave."

Dunno it will do any good, but they do say if you say something often
enough you might end up believing it.

    Bullshit.

Next time some 4WD idiot pulls out from a stopsign and nearly takes you
out, I'm sure you'll be thinking of them as a 'victim'.

I wasn't there, and didn't see it, but I'm happy to accept that Susan
had every reason to be angry with her 'victim'. Susan's error was in
over-reacting to the rude response she got from the offending driver.

I personally prefer less violent reactions, but I don't see what she did
    as a hanging offence.

I've had worse happen to me but never acted on the impulse.
Her problem is she over reacted then has not genuinely expressed remorse.
sure the other person was senseless but does 2 wroings make a right and
    then some?
I thought YOU of all people were the forgiving type.
btw thanks for the heads up with the staintunes
hopefully they arrive so i can pay the guy

Why is it necessary to express remorse?

So far my reactions have been restricted to abuse, ranging from a shake
of the head and/or a "you're crazy" gesture, to pounding gently but
loudly on the roof of the offending vehicle, while giving my impression
of a foaming at the mouth homicidal lunatic. (This was where a motorist
gave me a split-second choice between going under his left-turning
vehicle - together with my pushbike- or going round the corner with him.
His initial reaction to my question about whether or not he had seen me
resulted in a "piss off" reaction.) I had a good chuckle as I rode away.
    He didn't.
Yep, She over reacted. Why should she show remorse, and what is the
value of expressing it in this forum to a bunch of self righteous
wankers? Read her post again, perhaps she was merely explaining what it
was that got her angry in the first place. She has clearly indicated
that she wouldn't do it again. What more do the peanut gallery want?
    Sackcloth and ashes?
Who said it was right? Did she ever claim that what she did was he right
    thing to do? No.
I am. I can forgive Susan for an understandable over-reaction. I
suspect it is not characteristic behaviour for her. I can forgive you
for behaving like a self-righteous wanker. I believe it is not
    characteristic behaviour for you.
You're welcome. I keep a watching brief on BMW bits on eBay. You need
to if you want to keep an older Bimmer running.
I'll keep a couple of fingers crossed for you.
BTW, did you find out whether or not they did actually include a set
of headers as stated in the ad? they don't seem to show in the photo.
