If you are talking about Mini Monster going to gaol then what should
happen to the women who pull out in front of them?

err... but people don't usually get to swear allegiance to anything until
they've already got their "ticket-to-ride" and already gained permanent
residence in "the land of milk-n-honey" as you call it. So not only does the
oath not mean shit, they don't get shit for their effort in saying it either.

  5. JL or maybe it has to do with stress and being bottled in metal cage
that you use as your shield?

I note that the people saying this are of the generation that produced
the generation that's apparently so uncaring and rude.

That is so true - had a vehicle suddenly change lanes mid-corner while I was
overtaking on the outside lane - due to my limited experience at the time I
thought is was better to mount the kerb and run off the road than to hit
him... after narrowly missing 3 trees and bending the front wheel
    completely sideways I got edjacated...

  9. Over here they seem to have quotas, but just the number of contacts, not
the number of bookings, got that from a copper that pulled me over for a
licence check, and proceeded to write my details down in his little book
to prove he had talked to me.

    snip.

Adelaide City Council didn't have quotas for their parking cops, but
they did know how many parking tickets had been written for each bomber's
beat on each day of the year, for years, giving them a good feel for how
many tickets should be being given out every month.

So if someone wasn't writing around the right number of tickets they
"should" be for that area at that time of year, that someone would be
asked why. There might be an obvious reason like roadworks or special
events, but they'd have to have a good reason why, or they'd be watched
    for slacking or for bribery.

I would be very surprised to learn that the coppers didn't have some
similar metric, if not actual bookings than contacts or some other way
to show they aren't skiving off.

  11. The lidar units time the return of a laser pulse to get a distance, a
fixed time later they do it again, it then calculates the speed from the
change in the distances measured in a time interval, nothing like the
    Doppler shift used in radars.

  12. No, the frequency of the returned signal would be doppler shifted,
giving an indication of the speed of the object the beam bounced off.

  13. Which BTW is NOT direct evidence of velocity.
The electronics that does that is 'commercial-in-confidence' in many
places, despite the fact that any particular manufacturers competition
is the first to know what's been designed and done.
It's just us wood-ducks that aren't permitted to find out what's going
on. By GovCo decree, no less.

    Toby Ponsenby, Dec 15, 2004
  14. No, only the rate the object is approaching or receding from the radar,
so if it was travelling at an angle to the radar the reading would not
be accurate, unless compensated for like the multinova units over here.
