Actually ridiculous Usenet arguments are 2 doors up this is moderately
    useful motorcycle arguments.

....and we all live happily ever after? ;-)

Yeah, you MCers *are* at a higher risk, and you *are* more vulnerable,
and you *are* less visible. One reason I wouldn't even *think* of
riding a bike in Syd-a-ney is the amount of people who apparently
    don't notice me when I'm wrapped in a 5m x 1.8m, 1.5 ton bit of steel
    - sitting on a 300kg engine-on-wheels with these morons around
requires more bravery than I have to spare. When you add the arrogant
"stuff him - he'll stop" attitude, well...

Perhaps some edumacation on the fact that driving/riding is an
exercise in trust and co-operation? After all, the only thing stopping
that truck from hitting you head on is a thin white line painted on
    the road...

Motorcycles in NSW crash at the same rate as cars.

RIders are more vulnerable to crashes, so get hurt more. But they
    aren't more liable to crash.

I read it as meaning "more (of the) cops on the road fixated on the
things that cause accidents (and less of them fixated on speed)"

But then I usually read more into stuff than is actually written when it
    suits me.

    Very well put.
This is one of the reasons I hate it when bikies breach that trust by
riding in the breakdown lane or by pulling up in FRONT of the stop-here
    line at intersections.
If we expect other road users to honour the "agreement" then the least we
can do is honour it ourselves!

Nope. I have the figures of cars 272.9 per 10,000 and motorcycles 272.1
per 10,000. (That's registrations, not km, km travelled figures for
bikes are acknowledged by the Bureau of Stats to be wrong and the
    collection method is changing)

And just for fun, "There are some 85,000 motorcycles registered in
NSW,but,on average, only 100 CTP claims against motorcyclists are
received by the MAA each year.By contrast there are some 2.7 million
motor cars with approximately 10,000 claims against them each year.On
this basis one in every 850 motorcycles will be the subject of a CTP
claim, where as the claim ratio for cars is one in 265.47"

In other words, cars are dangerous buggers, they hurt people lots!
    Get 'em off the road!

  12. That's like saying bitchmen is dangerous, so should be banned instead of
    making riders wear helmets :)

How many CTP claims for sidecars?

Clearly the safest form of motorised travel, statistically.

It is dangerous, particularly when you insult it by misspelling its name.

And that helmet thing will never catch on.

That's not how the km travelled are calculated, they don't use the rego
    papers.

(That's a NSW only thing I believe, SA doens't do it)

I believe the km travelled was done by a "random sample" quesionnaire
which was challeneged and shown to be non-random and badly done.

Which the ABS has acknowledged to be true.

I think it's the Staysafe committee meetings that all this was being
handled in, but I don't have full details off the top of my head, for
full details you can try contacting the MCc of NSW via
    www.mccofnsw.org.au

Oh? OK - I saw your posted stats, and I believe you.
Ok, I get it! Since us cagers and you riders seem to crash at the same
rate, perhaps you'll stop picking on us, calling us blind and all
    that? ;-)

Hey Clem, I know that there are plenty of drivers who absolutely
*hate* that, but I never have a problem with it - you've disappeared
into the distance when the light goes green, and I'll probably never
see you again, so it's alright with me. I'd rather you pulled over on
the Old Pacific Highway when I catch you in the twisty bits, but
    that's another story...
