My boss is paying for me to take the bike to Tassie and I'll have a day to myself. Any suggestions for spending a Sunday starting in Devonport and finishing in Launceston? -- Frank Copeland Home Page: <URL:http://thingy.apana.org.au/~fjc/> Not the Scientology Home Page: <URL:http://xenu.apana.org.au/ntshp/> Keep it in Usenet. You can check out the murals in Sheffield, pat a Tassie Devil at Mole Creek or even go via Cradle Mountain and still make it to Launceston in a day. Mate just hop on the bike and ride. There are no bad roads in Tassie, just the odd spot of bad weather. -- Cheers Dave (Mojo67) FZR600 >> ZX6R >> ??? Been saying that myself for a long time, maybe something about being born in the same city... -- Frank Copeland Home Page: <URL:http://thingy.apana.org.au/~fjc/> Not the Scientology Home Page: <URL:http://xenu.apana.org.au/ntshp/> Keep it in Usenet. http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/glitch1/Tours/LongTours/Tassie/ copy/ paste: Follow the signs to Devonport/ Burnie, cross the bridge across the Mersey River towards Devonport CBD, turning L just after the bridge (first turn-off, still on the down-ramp). follow the main road through Quoiba, turning R in Spreyton towards Sheffield. About 7km further on it's L onto the C150 (signed to "Nook"), following that all the way into Sheffield, turning L onto the main road. A quick look at the murals and a stretch of the legs (the ice-cream shop on the left 3/4 of the way through town is a good stop, if a bit early in the day , then it's a couple of 100 meters further up the road towards Deloraine, before the R turn onto the C136 (to Gowrie Park), 4km later turn L onto the C137 to Paradise and Mole Creek. At the T-junction turn R and it's straight into a smorgasbord of bends. 10km on it's L onto the C138 for 25km to Cethana, turning L at the T-junction to Moina. L again at the Roadhouse (great coffee/ snacks) for the run towards Cradle Mountain. Turn L at the sign onto the Cradle Mtn. Road, it's sealed to the lodge, after that come about 7km dirt into the National Park (fees apply) and the carpark at Dove Lake with Cradle Mountain itself towering over the lot. IF....Cradle Mtn is clouded over, only go up to the roadhouse, then return on the same roads back to and through Mole Creek, keep following the road into Deloraine, At the roundabout, turn R into town, follow main Rd, straight through the next roundabout, turn right at bottom of hill and across the railway tracks. Then follow the signs to Liffey Falls, it's route A5. Keep going through some sweet stuff up to Breona Point (very short piece of gravel shortly before, might be sealed by now, less than 1km), have a drink and return towards Deloraine. At Golden Valley turn right to Quamby Brook, straight to Osmaston, right (route 505), follow to end , turn left route C513 to Bracknell. Turn left route C 511 to Carrick. Turn R onto main Hwy (Bass Hwy) to Lonnie. GREAT stuff, have fun. This avoids nearly all HWY stuff and adds a pile of great twisties/ great scenery. cheers pete
[Excellent directions snip'd] Sounds great, got it all marked on the map. Shouldn't manage to lose myself more than three or four times I'm sure -- Frank Copeland Home Page: <URL:http://thingy.apana.org.au/~fjc/> Not the Scientology Home Page: <URL:http://xenu.apana.org.au/ntshp/> Keep it in Usenet. I had to look that one up. Must be one of the few roads we didn't travel on. Jen didn't think the line on the map was wiggly enough, and it sounds like she was right. -- Cheers Dave (Mojo67) FZR600 >> ZX6R >> ???
