It doubles up as everything just lately.

heh. Just out of interest could you do a pushbike frame? Take it back
to metal then a nice gloss black, plus apply some supplied decals then
    lacquer over the top?

Without a doubt, but there'd be no need to use gloss black, because the
lacquer does the gloss thing and that keeps the customers costs down. Solid
colours cost more than basecoats and if lacquer is needed over decals, it's
pointless painting with a gloss solid only to sand the gloss off before you
lacquer it. And you *do* have to sand the gloss off a solid colour before
you lacquer it or it can look like utter shit.

    Whereabouts are you?

We occasionally paint transits and ambulances... They're quite big...

    Birmingham.

In the bike world I'm looking at 150-200 quid for a single colour
spray job as I described above, or 50-75 for a powercoat. Mind you, I
have to decide if I'm actually going to build the frame into a bike
yet. If not (because I already have two bikes that cover most of my
riding) then there's no point getting it refurbed and I'll punt it on
    ebay as is.

Well I'm up in Notlob if ever you make a decision to finish the bike and
would like us to do the job. I can provide a lot of pics of wrk we've done,
ranging from the ridiculous to the even more ridiculous.
    Yeah, that'd be about right.

    or 50-75 for a powercoat.

Powerdoating is a lot more hard wearing than paint, but of course, you can't
powder over decals as I'm sure you already know.

    Mind you, I
It's a plan worth giving thought to.

I'll be spraying a helicopter either this month or next, depending on when
it arrives from septicland. That's going to be a bit of a bugger coz it's 40
feet long, 10 ft high and 8 ft wide across the skids and you daren't go
    anywhere near heli's with sandpaper.

If only everyone had the same thought processs Owen, we'd be sorted.

I've got a friend currently giving my 36 year old Gibson J200 a "going
over". That's a neck check, fret re-profile, new nut and new bridge saddle.
He says it won't cost me anything because "it's what he does", but I won't
"not" pay him because if I take the work for free I'd not be able to ask him
to check over any of my other guitars and two if them need it. If I pay, I
can get those done too without feeling like I'm taking the piss.

His family have still got to eat, after all.

You'll have fun doing that in the workshop! Not ideal, prolly have to
mop it up - 1500 on the DA, Trizac, fast-cut and Finesse-it, but a
    prety cool project...

It's the prep that's the bitch. I can strip the paint chemically, but I
can't do any more than use a Scotch pad (grey, not even red) and panel wipe.
Bit of a bugger if only a part of a panel needs attention, coz we can't "do"
part, it's got to be all of it.

    Ah well, it's all experience.

I paid 650 quid for mine in 1970 and a pal bought a new one about three or
four weeks ago to fucking LEARN on. Three thousand 2 hundred.

    *sigh* indeed.

Farecla matting paste, but neiter remove a paint edge from a chip around a
mounting bolt/screw hole and we've got a few of those. We've got to use
"Dasic acid" and take the paint off all the panel.

I'm sure I,ve seen grey Scotch ona
Oh aye, we use them occasionally, but infortnately, not on this job.
