A few clutch-based questions.

Before I set to, as it were.

    1. Should the slave piston "pop" out of the cylinder without any
    pressure on the lever?
    2. Does this suggest there's too much fluid in there?
    3. Do the new plates need soaking in oil before fitting?
    4. New or old oil?
    5. If one clutch spring is good, is two better?
    6. Could I just plonk the new spring on top of the old?
    7. Or should I leave it standard?
    8. Is "Natasha Kaplinksky's pregnant" really "news"?

Fucking hell this pissed me off when I noticed it made front page on the Daily
Mail. It would seem that the same newspaper that condemns modern, thick
Britain, is part of the problem.

Can do. My FJ one does and those on every BMW (car) I've ever worked on.
The manufacturers seem to recoomend this for all wet plate clutches IME.
No. Was it slipping? Best solution is an uprated spring (I'm assuming a
    diaphragm type here?) is better.
It always seems to work best unless you've tuned the tits off the lump or
are an animal with your clutches.

On Kwack multiplate clutches I always assemble the clutch with plenty
of new oil on the surfaces, but don't soak them. I think I originally
read this in the manual (in about 1981), so it might be factually
    based.
Why would you want to change from standard? If you have new springs,
these should be slightly longer than the old ones, which will have set
at a compressed length. Just replace the old with the new
Only if it was me that got her up the duff. And it wasn't.

  5. Hello matey.
She's come a long way since doing the Meridian news with Fred Dinage
back in the 90s so I guess you could say it is. Lesser "celebs" get more
coverage for less (think Rooney's missus) and you're about there.

Good luck to her. I used to sort of think she was fit.

    Not so:

"All employees are entitled to OML of 26 weeks and AML of 26 weeks.

Where the EWC is on or after 1 April 2007 there is no length of service
qualification for OML or AML. It can start from the first day of
employment, but a woman must give her employer notice of maternity leave
before she starts OML unless it is not reasonably practicable to do so:
s.71 ERA and Maternity and Parental Leave Regulations 1999 (MPLR) reg 4.

Not really, but Mrs WUN works in HR and has to pick the pieces up when
after holding somebody's job open for 52 weeks they decide at a day's
notice that they can't bear to be parted from little Chardonnay, so
they're not coming back after all, thanks very much.

Things can get a little ranty in our house sometimes.

Not unusual if the master cylinder is sticky, but it's should hapen.
No. There's a need for hydraulic pressure to push the slave piton out and
overfilling the res doesn't provide that pressure.
Absolutely. I wouldn't think of anything less than 24 hours either.
    Better for what?
If the design calls for one, I'd stick to using just the one, but I'm odd
    like that.
    There's a thought.
It would be if I'd impregnated her. I had a vasoff years ago.

It can and does quite often happen with slave cylinders as there is often a
spring inside them, so it's not only fluid pressure which makes them pop out
    on their own.
Ask me how I know this? Just try finding a spring you didn't know existed
when the piston popped out overnight on its own accord and went 'walkies'
down the back of the bench. Piston was still there in a pool of fluid but no
spring. Hassles then setting up the clutch without drag was 'troublesome'.
This caused me to finally admit defeat and RTFbmwM, which obviously showed
said spring and described its function.
