Well a long running annual 'winter' rally not far from 'the chateau'
anyway. Middle of December so hardly in the same league as the boche do.

Plenty of outfits and fair sized fires to attract a certain sort though.

Pah, barely a hard frost on the ground. Obviously they would retreat at the
    first sign of real snow.

True. At what altitude is the Elefant site? Millevaches is pretty high
('the chateau' is 600 metres). If they held it just two or three weeks
later there could be enough snow to satisfy even you some years.
    2008/2009 comes to mind.

  4. The Elefant is at about 600m IIRC.

    In communiqué <1jul4ag.1d2adkj1josd1nN%>,
    <googles>
Millevaches - 800–956 m. But a lot further south and west.

Gets brass monkeys at our place though. It remains to be seen if I can
get there and back OK with a trip out to ski at Mont Dore in February,
winter grip tyres or not. The first few Xmas trips we did were no
problem, but 08/09 featured some epic snow. Come February though arctic
temperatures are often experienced (it's a long way from the sea) and in
2007? there was such a sudden weight of ice and snow on trees overnight
that they were falling over and some 6 inch trunk birches were bent in
an arc right down to the ground never to recover.
