A Maxxix tyre question.

The ER5 is coming up for tyre replacement. Bridgestones seem to wear out
quickly and cost about 120 ukp a set. M&P offer Maxxis tyres for a lot less
    money.

    1. Are they the modern equivalent of the Pneumat to be avoided at all cost
or decent tyres for a runabout commuter that rarely sees more than 80mph?

    2. They offer various aspect ratios. Kawasaki specify 110/70 -17 and
130/70 - 17. Maxxis offer some 110/90 and 130/90 that look to have a rain
shedding tread pattern - similar to the old Rain Cheeta (sp?). How important
might that 70/90 be on the ER5?

I've had Maxxis tyres on many of my bikes over the years, mainly commuter
bikes like GT550/750, XS650, XJ650 and even an LC. I had no problems at all
with them even in the wet. Maybe using them on a Bandit was asking a bit too
    much?
ISTR that Lozzo likes them too(on lighter weight bikes).

  3. They're rated quite highly for middleweight non-sprout bikes.

I certainly rate the lighter bike tyres that Maxxis make, like the
Barracudas, but I never tried the Z rated radials.

Ever had them on a Guzzi? If so what were they like?

Mine's about to have finished off yet another set of Bridgestones.

I had a pair on a T3. No wirries at all apaprt from getting a matched pair.
It took 3 weeks for M&P to get an 18" front to match the back. They only had
    19" at the time.
Get onto Ebay and try and find a pair of Azaro (first generation) AV36/39SP.
This combination is simply *amazing* on a Lemans. I have picked up the last
4 sets for my FJ1100 from Ebay for typically <£75 per pair (delivered). This
was usually getting the rear and front tyres from separate sellers.

They're quite good in the wet. They're also quite sensitive to tyre
pressure. I had to drop the front a few PSI to feel confident with the
    front grip.

  8. I had a Barracuda on the GT750. No worries.

Their 'cooking' tyres for 'cooking' bikes seem fine. I dunno about the
    sportier tyre sizes.

As everyone else posts about the rubber, I'll confuse you
    about the sizes.
The 130/90 will give the wheel a considerably larger diameter,
might even be trouble with clearance. The 110/90 one on the
other hand seems promising. It might possibly (ICBA to look it
up) find the rim a tad wide but I really don't think so.
