I've been changing account details with my electricity supplier but I've
been getting very frustrated by having to repeat everything about FIVE
times to the tele-service operator and then they still get it wrong. The
person on the other end of the phone didn't speak very good English. So
I asked him where they are based, expecting something like Burnley. He
said Delhi in India. Don't get me wrong, I'm not racists but it not
right for us to give our jobs away and as customers we should expect to
have someone on the end of the phone that speaks English.

    Rant over.

The worst, of course, is when you ring up about driving licences and
get put through to a call centre in Wales. I mean, FFS, Scotland,
Newcastle, Liverpool fair enough - at least they speak English, but
    Wales, I ask you.

"Our" jobs? I only hope this is a deliberate wind-up. If not that's
probably the most implicitly racist comment I've heard on here in
    months.
    Heh.

Must admit to being miffed every time I hear of some British company binning
British workers to send them somewhere abroad.

AOL. Especially when it's the one you work for :( although strictly
speaking it's not a British company but same difference eh?

I tend to stop buying the products of these companies if at all possible, I
won't be buying a Dyson for example any time soon.

  10. If the quality of the product is the same, then why?

Sounds like you are rascist - or at least you think it's more
acceptable for someone to be unemployed in Delhi than in Burnley.

Blimey. FWIW, our place outsources some development to India. Good
luck to them, is what I say. The work we've given them is legacy shit
and it gives myself and my colleagues time to get on with the new
    stuff.

As an aside, I wouldn't wish working in a call centre on anybody, so
    abroad will do.

I work for a French company that employs hundreds of people[1] in the
UK - should the sack all of us and give the jobs to Frenchmen?

[1] not sure of the exact figure.

sure. "I don't mean to sound racist but" is probably acceptable
    though...

Same here, most of our data centres are outsourced to India but with about
200-250 people on shore at any one time. They get all the new stuff though
and I'm left looking after the 'legacy shit' which kinda suits me.

So what do you do when the the 'legacy shit' comes to an end? Everything
has a finite lifecycle although some a lot longer than others.

Anyway that's the question which people here are asking. Doesn't bother
me either way to be honest, probably because I'm not directly affected
at the moment, when it does I imagine my head will come out of the sand.
