Before the days of international terrorism, we used to attend the 4th
July celebrations at RAF Chicksands every year. On one trip to the beer
tent a mate of mine had the bright idea of asking for some cans of
alcohol free beer. The Merkin guy serving didn't know what he was on
about so my mate repeated the request, and the guy behind the counter
asked what it was called, my mate very loudly replied "Bud - Buddy, or
something... Budweiser, that's the one. Tastes like piss and you can't
get drunk on it".

We drank up and fucked off sharpish. Seems we did it just in time,
because an almighty fight broke out between local lads and US
servicemen not long afterwards. That put paid to any more open visits
to the base.
