A Nice Sunday Ride through Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia

We didn't quite make it to Texas, but my son Justin (riding my
Monster) and his friend Zach (on his Kawasaki Ninja 650R) and I (on
the Harley) had a nice 180-200 mile ride through the backroads of
Loudoun County, Virginia, Jefferson County, West Virginia, and
    Frederick County, Maryland.

We stopped for cold drinks at two different little country stores, one
of which was in a complete uproar because the nearby home of the
mother of one of the clerks', down the street, was apparently in
flames (though we couldn't see so much as a wisp of smoke!) and the
street was entirely blocked with FIVE fire trucks, an ambulance, and a
fire marshall's SUV. No one would tell anyone anything, and the
locals were going crazy trying to figure out what was going on. It
was not resolved during our brief stop.

We rode first alongside and then crossed the Shenandoah River, out to
historic Harper's Ferry, West Virginia (site of abolitionist John
Brown's seizure of the United States Armory and Arsenal prior to the
civil war), and watched rafters bob down the river on every
conceivable (and some fairly inconceivable) flotation devices.

We rode up to the War Correspondent's Memorial at Gathland State Park
on South Mountain outside of Burkittsville, Maryland, a quiet and
almost deserted shady little park, one of my favorite motorcycle
stopping points. From there it was down to the rialroad town of
Brunswick, Maryland, and the VERY local Brunswick Pub, where no checks
are accepted, no credit cards may be used, cash only, please, and no
overnight tabs, no exceptions made. Smoking, however, is permitted,
and we had a couple of very cold beers while we watched storm clouds
and lightning pass by from the north to the south (very rare path for
storms in the mid-Atlantic area) off to the east - where we were
    headed.

After a decent interval, we ventured homeward, on occasionally wet
roads, but never actually encountered any rain.

A nice day, a nice ride, and time spent with a son (and a good friend
of his, who turned out to be a real nice young man himself) who only
moved away two years ago but who has grown up mightily in the meantime.

It's looking like I'll be going back to Knoxville later in August.
I'll more than likely trailer the bikes out there and spend a couple
days riding N. Carolina through the Dragon and the Cherokee Indian
Reserve. It looks like 20 something of August, either the last week or
the next to last. I'll have more details later this week.

I dare anyone to go with me! I have three rails on the trailer and
will have space in the SUV for anyone who wants to go. I'll be taking
at least one of the rails for my bike. My wife and son are wanting to
join in and go. Anyone else?

I have to spend at least a couple hours on two days actually working
(to pay for the trip), but I'm looking at sparing the entire week for
    riding through the mountains.

Norfolk is 270 miles from here. But I could be persuaded to ride down
and meet you. Zero's? As long as it's in August, not July. I'll be
out of country until ooa 29 July.

Say Tomorrow from Virginia, I enjoyed your Bike ride adventure
    ''report''.

Yeah.>I ride with my Son, and soNlaws quite frequent. Nothing like
sharing an bike outing with them.

Yep I agree, -you didnt ride- very close to Texas, I'd say, you didnt
    get anycloser
than ''1200 to 1500'' miles to the N.eastern border of the great state
    of Texas.

    Good job.
    thanks for sharing.

    Oh yeah. Other than a Valkyrie being called a Monster/Beast,@ times;
''what kind of Monster motorsikel do you have? (hmm?) Never know,
    if'en' ya' dont ask!

    BrianWalker; submits an invitation:
''I dare anyone to go with me! I have three rails on the =trailer= and
will have space in the SUV for =any''one''= who wants to go. I'll be
taking at least ''one'' of the rails for my ''bike''. My wife and son
are =wanting to join in= and go. Anyone else?''

    I can just see it now. Hypotheticallly speaking of course;
-Some guy, say; like me or Ed, harold, or Jerry, ''takes you up'' on
    your most considerate, cordial invitation.

-yep, sounds like it'd really be fun, one feller riding with you and
your family, to Tennessee. This feller couldnt bring along ''his wife
and family'', woodnt be enough room in the SUV, wood it?
Therefore,he'd have to go by himself, I would imagine.

But, he would have his Bike along right, so for a break, he could ride
along at times, But other times it could be on the trailer, yes?

Brian, right away at the top, you said you'd trailer the ''Bikes''.
    (plurally speaking)

(kidding ya)----Sincerely here; Brian, ''I admire'' you for posting
that you will probably ''trailer'' a motorcycle.
    Especially one, who's frequently made the statement many times. of;
''being totally against trailering a dern motorsikel, for any reason,
    anywhere'' (period)

Shoot, I'd do it in a ETx minute if I damn well wanted too, good, for
    you.

I've trailered mine around the country many times, that way, one can
have his family with em'. (nice)

I'll be interested to know what individual on here might take you up on
your invite; being that you ''surely'' would finance the ''fuel'' used
in the big ol' SUV, pulling a trailer....right.---Not a bad deal, for a
    certain individual. ---(friendly RNgrin)-
