Coming back from central London today, I got behind an SV650 (I was on my
DL650). He kept accelerating away from the lights and although I could stay
close up to 60 or so he pulled away fairly easily after that. Anyway as we
were on the A12 which is mostly 40 limit I didn't want to get up to silly
speeds so I would back off and let him go - only to catch him at the next
set of lights every time. I think he was getting a bit peeved at his
inability to lose me. However, as we approached one set of lights, which
had just turned red for my direction (straight on), I noticed he was in the
left hand filter lane for a left turn (with no red traffic light on it) . I
assumed he was off on a different route. However, 20 seconds later I
noticed the crafty sod coming back up the road on the left and then turning
left at the lights (now green for him) thus continuing on the road ahead
while I had to wait another minute or so until the lights changed.

He must use that part of the A12 so often he has worked out that a left
turn, u-turn then left again will get him through more quickly than waiting
    for the lights to change.

    Respect!
