That's why Labour were happy to offer it. They know it'd shore up their
position and exclude the smaller parties further.

You might be thinking of AV+, which is AV with a proportional list-based
top-up. That's still a bit pants though - the LDs want STV and with good
    reason.

I don't know enough about it to say for certain what they might do but
I know enough about the Trident replacement to be pretty certain it'll
    happen.

They might still go with the carriers but if there have to be defence
cuts then I can't see anywhere else they can be made. Public opinion
won't let the troops in Afghanistan bear the brunt of it and the RAF
are also very active out there so they'll escape any major cull. I
just can't see anywhere else where a major saving can be made and the
carriers were/are planned to be finished in Scotland so shelving those
plans isn't going to impact the Tory vote as much as dropping the
    nukes would do.

  3. Because they're viewed as the 'centre party' and will be almost
everyone's second choice (apart from the 20% or so who have them as
first choice) so in any area where they are in second place in FPTP
    they're likely to win?

So not more people get what they want, but less people get what they
    don't want?

I've seen the sence of Trident now. Keep that and get rid of all the other
stuff we use to interfere around the world.

Just be ready to actually use the feckin things.

Most people who've been involved with either the Vanguard or the
Astute class subs share the same opinion.

You poor sod. I'd suggest you stop trying to communicate via the written
medium. It doesn't paint an accurate picture of your intellect.

    Unless...

It's rather a key point, isn't it. I haven't heard *that* debate in public.
We know the old traitors of the Left might have failed to respond to a
Soviet attack but what about the current lot and who will the attacker be
    anyway.

Eh? the two bombs on Japan were definitely an attack.

Do you think a little radiation is dangerous? more has been released in the
past 66 years than is likely to be released in the next 1066 and yet ancient
crones like yourself soldier on. Nowt wrong with a few rays zimmer boy.

Rule 306b needs updating. Gone are the days that every thread eventually
descends into Monty Python references, in favour of a couple of middle
aged gimmers arguing the toss over the cause or execution of a 20th
    century war.

Oh but I was speculating on 21st century war to come. Further updating?
