That's not an accident, accidents are not strategically planned. This sounds
like a typical bunch of Hells accountants converging on the same place at the
same time without a clue (or an ounce of roadcraft). I spose BTH will know
more about it... sounds like it was just near his property.

The info I got is that a group of 24 or so riders had split into two groups.
The first group had passed a 4WD and the second group was overtaking. They
hit 2 sportsbikes coming the other way. 8 bikes went down, with 5 injuries
    and two fatalities.

I've had no luck at finding out precisely which group was involved - I'm
inclined to agree with Nev that it was probably a bunch of H.Accs, but
    that's just speculation.

Tragic regardless, particularly for the two poor bastards coming the other
    way.

<Link is all one line - sorry for the break>

Says they were a group of non-local Harley riders, with wives/partners
onboard from a Goulburn social group.

2 dead, 4 serious injuries still in hospital, and 6 with minor injuries
    otherwise OK.

If I'd headed home from Bathurst via Goulburn yesterday I might have been
    caught up in it! :-(

This was 8km from Bungendore on the Tarago road, so it was still 24km from
Tarago (& my place is 16km out the other side of Tarago).

All I know about it is 2 radio news reports last night, and this in the
    Canberra Times today:

I feel sorry for the poor bugger who copped the head-on through no fault
of his own. It sounds *to me* like a case of the trailing riders in the
group assuming that the bloke ahead had checked the safety of the
    overtaking manouever.

FWIW I almost had the same type of meeting with a car on the Boorowa-Yass
road this afternoon. Must have been the weekend for it.

    Tux???

    Nah - don't tell me, I don't wanna know.

As far as the 'accident' goes, I missed out on that particular party by
    about 30-40 mins I reckon.

Out for a ride with Daniel (part-time aus.moto person) and our return
leg involved the Tarago => Goulburn stretch.

By the time we got there, the road was blockaded by the cops, who
redirected us back thru (almost) Braidwood.

A few minutes before, we were coming thru Lake Bathurst township, where
we slowed down to ~70KPH. Coming up to the 100KPH sign I gave it a bit
of a squirt up to 140ish and coasted back down to 100ish. I looked in
the mirror and saw flashing lights coming up on me.

"Holy Crap! How unlucky is it to be caught doing *that*?"

Copper overtook me doing 160-180KPH or so.

I thought for a while there that I'd had a lucky escape. Not so for
    some other poor bastards.
