  1. I wasn't thinking of that.

"The £8-a-day congestion charge in London is to rise to £25 for cars
such as 4x4s - "Chelsea tractors" - that emit high levels of carbon
    dioxide.

Ken Livingstone, the mayor, said yesterday that the proposed rise would
apply to vehicles in Band G, the top road tax rate. It would be "a
painful regime" aimed at tackling "catastrophic climate change".

The £25 charge would apply to vehicles which emit 374 grams of carbon
    dioxide per kilometre

Mr Livingstone wants to introduce the new charge by 2009. If successful,
a London-wide emissions charge could come in by 2012.
When changes to Band G were announced in Gordon Brown's March Budget, it
became clear that it covered more than 800 models, including ordinary
family estates, as well as bankers' limousines and "Chelsea tractors".
It applies to any vehicle that puts out more than 225 grams of carbon
dioxide per kilometre. The £25 charge would apply to vehicles such as
the Range Rover Sport, which emit 374 grams per kilometre, as well as
the Ford Mondeo 16V auto, which emits 227."

  2. Nah. Just pissed off because I encountered another dippy cyclist coming
the wrong way round a blind bend on a one-way lane I take to get home.

  4. Only because I didn't want another dent in the car bonnet.

In-fucking-credible. The narrowest single-track lane you can imagine,
very steep, blind corners everywhere, and one-way for a very good
reason, and twatty in all his lycra was toiling up it. The wrong way.
    Death wish, I tell you.

I'm not qualified to make that judgement. If I was I wouldn't be a
travel agent and I would be in Australia measuring methane cow guffs.

Ah, ta. I (eventually) recalled that it was a vee-hic-ule of some
sort, but even then wasn't sure if it was a generic term for a 4x4 or
    a pickup.

Given that a SWB Landy was called a "half tonner" in the British Army,
and a LWB a "three-quarter-tonner", I'd guess that your average pickip
    is closer to the latter.

I think the Telegraph requires registration.
If you had said that in the first place we'd have known what you were
thinking, we're not mindreaders you know. And it doesn't say anything
about motorbikes, or ancient ice cream vans - you should have seen and
smelt the muck one of those was putting out as I followed it on my way
    home yesterday.

  9. Didn't for me.
Ah, that old excuse to cover the "I jumped to conclusions" error. :))

Hard to see how I could have made it any plainer, actually. Congestion
charge changing into emissions charge was what I said.

So it doesn't require registration to read it, then?
Yeah, 99 Flakes damage the ozone layer something chronic.

    Ahhh. multiple combo injuries.

I had a similar experienc when I got rear end shunted heading down onto
the Leeds inner ring road. Parked the Norton Combo with it's steering head
into the kerb and left it ticking over while I went to get driver details.

His eyes started to widen as he looked over my shoulder....

.....at the combo trundling off down the sliproad into two lanes of 45 mph
traffic emerging from a tunnel mouth.

    I didn't know I coud run that fast. :)

Mind you, I've seen those little Piaggio Ape 50cc trikes, kitted out for
    coffee making, offered for £6k.
