ADL: Slollen 2001 Gixxer

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by fred.kroft, Nov 6, 2007.

  1. Can I have that in writing, for submission to insurance companies?
Allow me to react to that with a "?!?"... That's, really, quite
staggering. If even old cahns can't get cost-effective insurance, then
we're in trouble as a civilisation...

Tartan seat, but no disc front brake, proper clutch, stainless steel and
carbon fibre exhaust, alloy wheels, alloy swing arm, decent front forks,
long range (Gorilla) petrol tank, mechanical drive tacho, etc.
...oh and the seat is yellow.
I, too, have that sorted.... mine is registered, and the only chinese
bit on mine is the wee top box, all the trick mechanicals are really
Japanese production. Actually, being as mine is a 1980 model, it's only
a couple of years away from being Historic plate-able.

Of course. For all the good it'll do.
Well, it was some time ago...the targeted bike was a new BMW K100RS.
Back then I had a rather a degree of <ahem> previous form for various
anti-social acts, and the trick of the tax dodging was tangled up in
leasing the bike, and insurance companies seemed to think a leased bike
to be a far greater risk.

Anyway, we are in trouble as a civilisation.

This _is_ aus.moto. Might still be Harsh Week, too.

Right or wrong, stupid or not, you are not alone in coming to your
    conclusion.

I don't recall calling you stupid. I just said what I was paying. My
previous bike was insured for Third Party only. About $120 a year.

Eh? I never said anything about comprehensive insurance. And don't
lump me in with those oldies in BFNW. I'm young, and I live in BFSW.

I thought Historic plates were a possibility after 25 years.......

...... but I could be wrong.

Well, it depends.... in NSW the official magic number is 30 years.

The story I got from one of the official "inspectors" who signs off on
the equivalent of pink slips went thusly:-

Some time in the past, maybe 12 or 15 years ago(could be more, very
vague), the NSW RTA changed to their current system of keeping track of
    registered bikes.

If someone pops out of the woodwork with a motorcycle which was actually
first regoed in say 1981, like a Z50-J, and that bike hasn't been regoed
since the change in computer systems, but has been in a shed for the
last twenty years, there is a possibility that, if it is identical with
a thirty year old model, it _could_ be put on club plates... OTOH if a
bike is currently registered, and is under thirty years old, there is
    very little wriggle room.
