Advice needed

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Gordon Baxter, Sep 17, 2006.

  1. Thank you for your responses yesterday re my question on setting a quiz for
    Superbikes.

    Could anyone be more specific about the more technical data that could be
    included, and which to steer clear of.

  3. Thanks for that. I am well aware of how to access the necessary data. the
    reason for my request was to ask 'motorbike enthusiasts' which of the data
    they would like to see in a quiz and which data would be unreasonable.

    Which of what data?

    Do you expect me to trawl through all the replies you've had so far and pick
    out the best bits? Why not compile a load of questions from the replies you
    already have and ask if we think its a fair and representative set of
    wuestions ranging from easy/guessable to 'only for the committed'?

    Dave

    PS. You might want to consider snipping sigs in future if you want to avoid
    Cab (or Pip, or............. quite a few others) "arguing like a girl"
    (except obv it's only Cab who "argue's like a girl"[sic]) at you.....

  5. Thanks for coming back Dave your help is very much appreciated. The data

  8. Committed anoraks, mind. Frankly, anybody who knows any particular bike
    to that level of detail outside the makers should be committed.

    <snip list>

    Don't forget the 'circuit adjustable gearing' mechanism which allows two
    gear ratios to be ran for the same circuit so, for example, you can use
    a higher gear ratio on a long straight (to get a higher top speed) and a
    lower gear ration on a short straight (to accelerate to the top speed
    faster). It's kind of like a derailleur mechanism but a bit 'butcher'.

    I think you're going waaaaaay too technical.

    Try sticking with questions such as:
    Easy: "Which rider has won the most WSB races in the history of the modern
    Championship?";
    Medium: "Prior to Troy Corser in 2005 who was the last person to win the WSB
    Championship on an in-line 4 cylinder motorcycle, and what make was the
    motorcycle?";
    Minor Anorak: "What does the word 'desmoquattro' refer to on Ducati's WSB
    machines?"; and
    Anorak with bar: "How many riders have won both a MotoGP/500cc championship
    race *and* a World Superbike race? Name them."

    That sort of stuff. Anything else would be, as stated by others, just a
    little bit boring.....
