Cheaper to hire a bike in NZ.
Walk off plane, hire bike, ride around NZ,
get off bike and back on plane, back to Australia where you belong.
    Easy huh.

Really, I am interested if I can save a buck. Can you give me something to
back that up with, a bike comparable to say the BMW 1150 Adv, for about 2
    months ?

    Dave Milligan at

Return transport incl. NZ roadworthy and temporary NZ rego below $1500
return for bikes up to 2.3m length (or thereabouts).
    We're booked (6 of us) for Feb/March '05 shipments :)
Looked into hiring, better off transporting if staying more than 3 weeks
(well, 2 weeks really, but also considering costs for servicing/tyres on own
Drawback re: own bike....Comp insurance expensive and impractical/expensive/
    drawn-out to execute claims.
Looked into doing it ourselves, for the little gain there are a lot of
timewasting/expensive hassles to put up with, just not worth it.
If you want to go at the same timeslot, let me know, one of us just couldn't
make it for the 5 weeks and had to forfeit his deposit $ on the shipping,
hiring for 2 weeks instead, so there's a free slot, if you want to buy the
    place off him.
Bikes available 18/Feb to 24 March, or fix different return date with Dave

Dave looks like the solution (thanks for the replay further down Dave)
and thanks for the offer but I was thinking of going late '05 at the
moment, I have a bigger ride planned for the first part of '05.

The only downside is the distance from Townsville to Melbourne... !

On the bright side, I can turn it into an Adventure getting it to Melb,
leave it there for a month with a mate, orgainse Dave to ship it, then
fly over to NZ, rid earound for a month, then back to Melb, fly back to
Townsville, leave the bike in Melb, then fly back to Melb and ride Tas !

Sounds like 2005 is now booked for Adventure riding ;)
