I've got a Hornet 600 at the mo and thinking of changing it. I dropped it
on the motorway at the beginning of the summer and although its all fixed
now (and me!) it just doesn't seem the same bike anymore. I quite like the
    look of the Kwaka Z1000.

Anyone got one and able to offer any advice as to why I should/shouldn't
    consider it?

dunno really. I just did alright.

I was doing about 80 behind a car, probably too close, too fast, and the car
slammed his brakes on for some reason. I reacted by pulling the front
brake - again too fast, the bike wobbled but I managed to control it and
    then, I fell off.

I hit a pallet, seemed to do the trick.

    oooohhhh kkaaaaay.

And you think the next step in the right direction is to buy a more
    expensive, faster bike?

er, yes. But is the Z1000 that much faster? I'm not really bothered about
being able to go really fast, I just want a bike that's fun to ride. The
Hornet is fun but I want something newer (The Hornet's W reg).

that's a "crash" surely. To me a "drop" is when you "just fall off"
    because you've been a clumsy ****.

I had though. I was feeling quite relieved and pleased with myself. And
then I fell off. Hence 'dropped it' and not 'crashed'.

[sigh] It doesn't really matter though, dropped it, crashed, controlled it
or not, the end result was the same.

So, what do you think of the Kawasaki Z1000?

I wasn't really suggesting that you shouldn't buy the Z1000, but I was
hinting about maybe you might want to consider either some sort of
advanced riding course or simply more experience first.

On the other hand, it's your arse, do what you like ;-)

Dunno. I took off, landed, went into a terminal death wobble and then 'fell
off'. The funny bit was I overtook a lorry whilst sliding down the motorway
and afterwards we had the following conversation.

Lorry Bloke: I shat myself when you came past me without your bike.
    Me: *You* shat yourself.

other than being a complete prat, no.
Have you ridden one? I do quite a lot of motorway riding (I live in Cardiff
and frequently work in Bristol, 70 miles up the M4) and the naked Hornet is
liveable at motorway speeds even if my neck has grown an inch in the year
that I've owned it. But I was wondering if the Z1000 would be any worse -
I'm not expecting better but I couldn't live with worse.

  15. Let me add to the general disbelief.

You proved yourself incapable of controlling a 600cc machine and so you
    want a one-litre looneybike?

Idiots like you drive up insurance premiums.....

Sounds like a supermoto may be a better idea. They are cheap to repair
and designed to be dropped :)
