Gentlemen, here goes my proposal. (all distances in kms and according to http://www.campsa.com) 271,8 Cahors (Lot) Vielha (LLEIDA) 271,8 Km 500,1 Vielha (LLEIDA) Fraga (HUESCA) 228,3 Km (via Esterri d'Aneu, Sort, Tremp) 588,9 Fraga (HUESCA) Alcañiz (TERUEL) 88,8 Km (via Caspe) 958,9 Alcañiz (TERUEL) ALBACETE (ALBACETE) 367,5 Km (via Montalban, fast road) 958,9 Alcañiz (TERUEL) ALBACETE (ALBACETE) 372,4 Km (via Allepuz, twisties) 1258,9 Albacete (TERUEL) Hacienda Wibbleypants (somewhere) 300,0 Km (estimated) This makes two journeys of some 630kms, which is about 400 miles per day. And my crash space is 50kms south of Alcañiz, say about 640kms from Cahors or some (yes, exactly) 400 miles. Consider this a signal in the skies. So, if you set forth from Cahors at 8:00am you could be reaching Esterri d'Aneu past Bonaigua pass (40kms past Vielha, 312kms, 195 miles at 45mph) at 12:20, so reaching Sort at about 13:00, time that I suggest for having lunch. In the evening I suggest dinner in Alcañiz, 30 miles before destination place (two double beds of crash space are offered, plus affordable and clean "hostal" -no stars- in village). Budget for menu meals could be some 12 euros in the Pyrenees and some 15 euros in Alcañiz (there is a 30 euros menu plus "a la carte", the place is recommended by some seven guides). Later, I'll write the list and timetables of petrol stations and cash machines, for the readers peace of mind. Well, at least there should be a petrol station every 30 miles until Montalban and Alcorisa. From there I don't know, but shouldn't change.
I was looking at the Bielsa tunnel, but this would be better. I had sort of planned an overnight stop at Teruel, but I hadn't calculated the mileage. I suspect we'll go for the twisties. Just past Antequera. Sounds ideal to me. Excellent. Thanks for this, Domenec. It's very helpful to have a native guide...
May the Great Spirit be with the White Man of the Misty Island... http://online.wr.usgs.gov/outreach/historicPhotos/enlarged/guide.html BTW, having those two days on or near a week-end would be fine for me.
Glad you enjoyed it The 'ace (the bike we both have) was probably slow Bonaigua uphill because it is (let's face it) a fat bike in the very closed twisties. A lightweight bike can be surprising, as I learnt in Mallorca roads with a '95 125cc scooter this summer... Riding with a passenger I could pass some cars in several twisties uphill =
