Aggression at Wisemans...

Rode to Wisemans early this morning (I know you'll want to kill me Eck...)
and did the old slow motor to the front of the queue. Some builder-looking
guy in a ute (at the front) started yelling abuse at me. I told him to
shove it and that he was just going to hold me up on the other side anyway.

With that, he got out and to my joy was about twice my size and pranced up
to me ready to have a go. One of his mates (bigger than him) joined in (1)
and so I calmly got off the bike and hammered both of them unconscious
before riding onto the ferry to continue my happy day.

Scenario #2...following on from (1) ...and so I thought I'd probably move on
out'a there to enjoy a relaxing spin along River Road instead. Now call me
a wuss but this guy had a few big mates around, had gotten out of the wrong
side of the bed and was determined to welcome me to his area in his own
special way. (...and noone likes a queue-jumper I suppose, esp. if they've
been waiting for bloody ages themselves...).

I've been going to the front there for years without a problem (almost like
lanesplitting but I guess I am taking up a car space...). Anyway, River Rd
was good and at the next ferry I was actually waved up to the front of the
queue by a truckie and the ferry-master! Even got to throw some HD cheek at
an appreciative dude riding a V-Rod at Colo. Nice. :)

Clem, clearly you are a. more relaxed and b. more of a gentleman than me.
    :)

However, IMHO it's pretty silly to be at the back of a pack of vehicles
which will travel slower than you will (trucks, cars towing boats, old utes,
Ferraris etc.) when you're not going to inconvenience them by leaving first.
Always safer to be out the front and away on your own if you want to be a
    bit 'spirited' I reckon.

Anyway, I'll chalk it up to another human experience - thankfully didn't end
up with the bike kicked over. :)

    Cheers,
    Dave
(Um... OK, so there weren't any Ferraris...)

Faaaarking good effort. How many cases in that lot?

Thanks for the laugh. Needed it :)

Sorry mate - I try hard not to be such a bitch.

    Will explain later...

    Cheers,
    Dave
P.S. If you were there things would have been different. Wisemans down 2
    builders. :)

    Dave,

The 1979 NSW Traffic Regulations allowed for bikes to move to the head of
the queue and await the direction of the ferrymaster. (page 80)

Does anyone know if this is still the case?

    Safe riding,

    funny enough

when a group of us has turned up at the ferry and waited behind say 6-10
    cars
the ferry guy told the cars to wait and waved us up the front to get on 1st
    :D

I'm only new at this motorcycling malarky, but I got it learned
into me pretty early in the piece that jumping the queue at Wisemans
is a bloody big no no (by a more learned than me rider, not a
    builder-looking guy!).

The only (apparently) acceptable quasi-queue-jump is to motor
/all/ the way up and wait patiently on the cafe side of the ramp
well back. My sources tell me that if there's a bike sized space
left after all the cars and sundry have boarded in their rightful
order then you'll likely be invited to join. The same sources
suggest that jumping the queue is a sure-fire way to be sent
all the bloody way to the back of the queue by the bloke who
    controls boarding, etc.

I must confess that I'm not overly surprised that some builder-
looking guy got all up in your face about it. Builder-looking
guys and anger management issues go together like ramma lamma
lamma ka dinga da dinga dong at the best of times, but breaching
the social dynamics of the Wisemans Ferry queue will likely set
them off even more quickerer than usual.

    My $0.05.

Then move up to the front *after* you have waited your turn in the joining
    queue!

  9. What makes you think that you are able to queue jump? Because you are on a
motorcycle? Did'nt realise that gave you extra rights. A big difference from
    lane splitting in traffic.

Next time, sapre a thought for the vehicle that could'nt fit on the ferry
    who arrived before you.

Hey Bob, take a chill pill. It's normal practice at many ferries - as I
said, I was asked to the front at the very next one. Not sure how you ride
mate (or if you do at all) but I usually ride quicker than trucks and cars
towing boats (and most cars for that matter) so (again) it's far better to
be out the front than have to mix it with cages overtaking each other at a
snail's pace. Pretty much the same simple concept as lanesplitting to the
    lights actually.
You're right - however if the queue was that long I would have waited or
turned back but in this case it wasn't. :)

    Cheers,
    Dave

The only time I have been there I was told to go to the front along with
three other bikes by the ferry operator.
