My POS[1] GN has one of the foam type air filters. It's probably due
a clean so I'l be doing that as soon as I can be arsed.

The BOL recommends washing it in white spirit, drying, soaking in oil
then squeezing out the excess. I've done it once before but it was a
fucking messy business. The hydrocarbons involved seemed to get
    everywhere.

Anyone got any ideas/tips on doing this? I thought maybe I could wash
it with water and detergent and leave it to dry _thoroughly_. Then
maybe put it in a placcy bag with the oil and squidge it around a bit.
That wont help with the particularly messy 'squeezing out the excess'
    bit mind.

[1] It's really beginning to grate just how bastard slow this thing
is. New kitchen may have to drop down to second on the major
    purchases list.

I had to do this to the TS in December, messy. 'orrible job.
Well, the OE TS air filter decided to disintegrate (mind you, it was old,
shitty, and I was using petrol rather than white spirit). In the end I
found a similar looking pice of foam (packing supplied with some new wine
glasses), cut it to size, oiled it and way-hey, it's still doing it's stuff.
You should try a 49cc TS, extracting the last ounce of power is a real
    mission.

Good, then buy a foam filter spray, beware there are two types of filter
spray, those mean`t for cotton guaze i.e.K+N etc and those for foam
    i.e.Ram-air etc.
Just spray the filter with the foam type oil and fit.

    Oldbloke.

Piaggio Zip 50. (yes still 50cc not bored out) current top speed 68mph,
rigging it for the kid to go ped-drag racing.
Need to beat 56mph on the standing quarter to qualify.
    Which it`ll do....but he can`t ride it!
He`s only 16 so it`s not a moped at them speeds so his license is worth shit
as the scrutineers would disqualify him!
It`s fine on the road unless he gets pulled, but on the drag-strip my
brother (age 37 1/2) will have to take it up the strip co`s he`s a skinny
git and weighs in several (3) stone lighter than me.

Bloody red tape on a drag strip!!!

    He won`t want a 50cc when he`s 17, whats the fucking point of haveing a 50cc
class if 16 year olds can`t race !!!!!!

<rant-over> and any info to the contrary will be appreciated.
