Air filter foam?

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Richard Lindner, Jul 27, 2005.

  1. I want to modify the stock air filter for my NT650 and have been hunting
around to find some suitable air filter foam for the job. Pod filters
are difficult to fit on this bike and in any case I'd rather keep the
stock airbox. Unifilter in Sydney will convert the current filter unit
but I'd rather do it myself, and they won't supply filter foam in sheet
form. Does anyone know of another supplier of a good quality air filter
    foam for this purpose?

from the 400 website, credtit to Richonenz

I just went down to autobarn [ a car accessary place ] and bought a piece
big enough to do the job .
    It's Uni-Filter brand and comes pre-oiled , the part Number is: LYNX1000 ,
it's for a 1000cfm Lynx carb , the best part is it only cost Aus $15.00 !!
    Too easy !!

  4. Thanks guys - I'd previously searched online and also been to Repco and
Super Cheap - but not Autobarn. They and Clarke Rubber (!) both have
outlets just up the road - will check them out over the w/e.

Another thought - 3M apparently make a filter medium called "Filtrete"
which is supposed to filter down to 0.3u and is marketed for use with
home air conditioners (sort of a poor mans HEPA). I've no idea yet what
the presssure drop across the filter might be though. Anyone ever tried
    this stuff for a motor?
